What is a chemical peel?

It is an advanced facial treatment that uses highly active exfoliating acids to make big changes in the skin.

Fall and winter are the best times to do peels, as your skin will be more sensitive to sun and heat.

Peels can be used to help with a variety of concerns:

Sorella Apothecary's peel collection contains 4 chemical peels all targeting different skin concerns.

Peels are typically done in a series of 6 treatments done 2-4 weeks apart.

Because this treatment is more intensive, it is important to stick to a strict home skincare routine during the series. This includes 2-4 weeks of prep prior to the series start to get your skin conditioned to receive these advanced treatments!

Last night I started with the Clear Skin Peel that is targeted towards clearing the skin of existing blemishes, preventing new ones and helping to reduce inflammation in the skin.

I chose this as the first in my series because I have been breaking out a bit (for me) so wanted to target those concerns before working into my bigger concerns.

My big goal for this series will be to lighten hyperpigmented areas (darker areas) of skin that I am self conscious of, as well as minimizing the appearance of the scars under my eyes and the wrinkles forming on my forehead.

First picture is after a double cleanse, before peel application. Next picture is directly following the peel and last 2 are of me this morning, post peel. We will call this day 1.

So far my skin is glowing right after having the peel done. It feels a little tight in some areas, but not much to notice so far.

Things that can be expected during the post peel healing stage (usually lasts about a week).

✨️visible peeling

✨️sensitivity to heat and sun

✨️slight stimulation when applying even gentle products

✨️darkening of hyperpigmented areas (especially if visible peeling occurs)

Do you wake up every morning with bags under your eyes like me?!

There are lots of reasons people get those often annoying under eye bags. For me, it is lack of sleep from having a small child and an infant. 😅

The good news is, there are things you can do to help!

A great eye product daily (such as Sorella's Aloe Cucumber Eye Gel) is great place to start to work on getting lasting results.

But what about when you need immediate results on a particularly baggy day?

The answer: a rose quartz gua sha stone!

The rose quarts is very cooling and calming to the skin and helps with tone. Simply take your stone (I like to put it in cool water for a few minutes before applying) and hold it under your eyes for 30 seconds to one minute, and see an immediate improvement to the area (Ilike to do this during my morning routine, afyer I've applied my eye product, before I apply my moisturizer).
