Not sure how to track alcohol? Here’s how, in a pinch:
First things first, did you know that alcohol is the elusive fourth ? Alcohol has 7 calories per gram so, technically, it’s a . It has energy value, but no nutritional value – like vitamins, minerals or fiber. This means it’s not essential to our survival.
Since alcohol macros aren’t required to be labeled, you won’t find them on a nutrition label. If you look at a hard seltzer’s label, you’ll see 100 calories – and only 2 grams of carbs. So, where do all the calories come from? The answer is alcohol.
Now to the important stuff - how do you track it?
Since alcohol metabolizes similarly to carbs and fat, you track it as one or the other. You can even track it as a mixture of both! Keep in mind that carbs are 4 calories per gram, and fat is 9 calories per gram.
Simply put – take the calories in your alcoholic beverage, then divide it by 4 to track as carbs or by 9 to track as fat.
Of course, mixers throw this off a bit. Shoot for diet soda, seltzer water or lime juice if you’re trying to stay as on-track as possible. Keep in mind that all of the above are estimates, based on brand, recipe and preparation - but an estimate is always better than nothing.

Hey, we get it - it’s been a longgg winter (so far) and a heavy start to the year. If you’re feeling burnt out, don’t beat yourself up - and especially if you’ve pushed those healthy habits you resolved to practice in 2025 to the side.
The bad news: the end of February/beginning of March is typically where MANY people begin to fall off. This is pretty normal.
The good news: it doesn’t have to be this way.
Try one, some or all of the following strategies to help yourself get back on track. ⬇️
✅ Start Small - Revisit ONE Habit at a Time
Instead of jumping back into EVERYTHING at once, pick one simple habit to restart. Maybe it’s drinking more water or building each meal around protein. Small, consistent wins are what gets the ball rolling.
✅ Plan & Prep for Success
Make healthy choices easier by planning ahead! Reintroduce meal prepping, setting out your workout clothes the night before and/or schedule your workouts in advance. Structure reduces decision fatigue and analysis paralysis.
✅ Ditch the Guilt & Move Forward
Don’t dwell. Setbacks don’t define you - how you stand up and dust yourself off does! Focus on consistency and progress, not perfection. Your journey will be full of ups and downs, twists and turns, a few steps forward and a few steps back. Keep moving forward, one step at a time.
✅ Reconnect with Your ‘Why’
Remind yourself WHY you started prioritizing your health/making healthy habit changes in the first place! Whether it’s to improve your body composition, feel stronger, elevate your energy or to set an example for loved ones, digging deep to reconnect with your BIG reason can reignite your motivation.

RFS, the CrossFit Open is coming up FAST! Make this Open your BEST Open yet with Life-Minded Health’s Competition Coaching. Psst…we’re doing something AMAZING within our SRQ CrossFit community for this year’s Open. It’s your (and our gym’s!) time to light up the floor! 🏋️♀️
Incorporating performance and recovery nutrition strategies into your routine is essential for elevated performance - and especially your recovery. ANY athletic event is extremely taxing on your body and brain! We’ll focus on:
✅ Proper fueling, featuring the quantity and quality of food that’s right for you.
✅ Performance strategies that are uniquely designed for what YOU want to accomplish. We recognize that everyone’s needs and goals are different! In other words, a CrossFit event vs. a HYROX race will require different strategies and tactics to help you perform at your best. (Speaking of HYROX…we can help you prep for this, too!)
✅ Optimized recovery routines to help you bounce back to your regularly scheduled training faster, reduce chance of injury (this is HUGE!) and see results. Remember, your recovery is when the magic happens!
Here’s how our six-week Performance and Recovery Nutrition Coaching package works:
Your program begins four weeks out from the CrossFit Open. It includes:
📝 An initial consultation with Coach .bs to determine your personalized plan, which is based on your event needs and goals.
🍞 Logging food and tracking customized, performance-focused macros via Practice Better, a state-of-the-art health tracking platform.
💪 A before and after InBody body composition reading (if applicable). Fun fact - proper performance and recovery strategies can spark positive transformation, like an improved resting metabolic rate, fat loss and lean mass/strength gain!

For two weeks post-Open, we’ll focus on your recovery - this can include manipulated macros, guidance on active and passive recovery techniques, sleep, stress management and more.

Horrific wildfires continue to devastate Los Angeles. They’ve caused destruction over thousands of acres, destroyed thousands of structures and have left thousands of people and animals displaced. Neighborhoods, homes, iconic restaurants and establishments, nature, the beauty and charm of places unique to LA, wildlife and dozens of lives have been lost as fires continue to ravage the area.
The Palisades and Eaton fires have quickly climbed to the top of the list of most destructive fires in LA and California history. Thank you to the brave and tireless LAFD firefighters, first responders and additional support as they continue to fight the blazes.
