✨ It’s been a while… almost 2 years since I last posted here.

Life has grown, shifted, and expanded in beautiful ways — but behind the scenes, I’ve still been creating, learning, and doing what I love. 💇‍♀️✨ Over the last 16 years, I’ve had the honor of helping women feel confident, refreshed, and more like themselves. Which has always been my driving force behind the chair. Hair is still my creative catharsis that I derive inspiration for through everything I encounter in life. The ebb & flow of our industry, and humans in general.

One thing I believe now more than ever: beauty doesn’t have to mean covering who you are. 🤍
Gray blending, dimensional color, healthy hair, and embracing what’s naturally yours can be just as powerful as transformation.

Let’s talk about this hair journey! 💫
My client is 100% white around face frame. About 75% in her top crown. Very sparse, 5%-10% above occipital. Everything below occipital is 0% grey. This is incredibly common.
She had been going to someone who utilized permanent color for coverage of her greys. Between levels 5-6. (For years 🫠) When she expressed she was sick of the maintenance, feeling like she would get a week and a half out of a retouch before she was seeing her white in her face frame. She was looking for a way to incorporate her grey and be lower maintenance.
Her stylist started to foil her. Heavily in the top crown….
For whatever reason, the back and bottoms continued to be left out of the lifting. All while she was still having permanent put on her root regrowth 🫠🫠🫠 wondering why her highlights would never lift past level 7 yellow/orange….
When she first came to me, she was truly two-toned. Light on top, dark on bottom. We stylist know how ‘fun’ it is to lift through years of permanent color deposit. 🫣😵‍💫
I was honest and laid out my plan and process involved to get her to the end result she desired. Thankfully, she was never attached to a specific color palette and really was patient and understanding. I’ve utilized varies techniques along the way. It is indeed a process. One that is very costly, and time consuming. Especially when you want to save the integrity of the hair. We knew going in, that it would be about a year of regular visits to see a fully balanced canvas.
We just cruised past our one year mark in our color corrective process. I’m happy to say, I’ve given her the dream maintenance schedule she desired. 12 week retouches!!

I think it’s immensely important to be real with ourselves.
What works for your lifestyle? It’s fun to be able to style and play when you want, but not everyone wants a daily obligation with their hair.

Transitioning a traditional foil client into a more painted, low maintenance balayage look is one of my most favorite processes behind the chair. The melding of new formulas and existing canvas. It’s so much fun to put depth back into lightened hair. To create ribbons of contrast movement using tonal color, lightness, and depth.

Sometimes, I like to think about WHY it is I lean into particular looks or techniques. What I’m being influenced by? Is it being requested specifically? . . I got to see one of my long time clients the other day. I have enjoyed utilizing her natural level 6 depth as my contrast in her palette. Our refreshes are every 10 weeks. She’s been in a high contrast/low maintenance foilayage for over a year. On her last visit, it was like someone whispered in my ear “It’s time to change. Change your technique. Create new.” She had zero requests besides grey blending. Gave me the go-ahead to freely create. (So grateful for that 😉) . . I made myself change placement, technique, and mindset. Stepped back, and stepped out of the box. It felt amazing!! I have been blessed with a decade plus of amazing retention clientele. When you’re only refreshing your own work, and obstacles stop coming your way regularly. It can become difficult to stay inspired. BIG change for the stylist, can be whatever makes you check yourself and your work by asking WHY. Change it up. Shake it up. Do whatever’s necessary to stay inspired! . .
