Wisdom Wednesday with Lady Payne

Our lives are always moving in the direction of our strongest thoughts. What we think shapes who we are.

You might read this and think I’m being an overly dramatic to get your attention. But this is no exaggeration.

Our lives do follow the direction of our thoughts. The better we grasp that truth, the better equipped we’ll be to change the trajectory of our lives. But don’t take my word for it. The word of God provide evidence. Here’s a brief example:

In Philippians 4:8–9, the apostle Paul writes, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

In these three sentences Paul moves from
- thought (“think about such things”) to
- action (“put it into practice”) to
- experience (“the God of peace will be with you”).

Lets look at modern psychology or what medical professionals call cognitive behavioral therapy. This breakthrough teaching reveals that many problems, from eating disorders to relationship challenges, addictions, and even some forms of depression and anxiety, are rooted in faulty and negative patterns of how we think. Treating those problems begins with changing that thinking. Proverbs teaches us “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he”. Proverbs 23:7

I don’t know about you, but when the Bible and modern psychology say the same thing, I want to know more.

So if both the Bible and psychology teach us that our lives are moving in the direction of our strongest thoughts, then we need to ask ourselves, “Do I like the direction my thoughts are taking me?”

If your answer is no, then maybe it’s time to change your thinking. It’s time to surrender and have a circumcision of the mind. Maybe it’s time to decide to change your mind so God can change your life. I often tell people “A changed mindset brings a changed lifestyle”.

If you’re skeptical, that’s okay. Believe me, I get it. We’ve all tried unsuccessfully to change bad habits and force our runaway trains of thought back onto the right tracks. We have held onto grudges in our subconscious while yet proclaiming the gospel. But where is the truth in that when our minds aren’t pure.

With God’s help, you can transform your mind. You can stop believing the lies that hold you back. You can end the vicious cycle of thoughts that are destructive to you and others. You can allow God to renew your mind by saturating you with His unchanging truth. You can forgive others and ask to be forgiven. One of the first steps to a change mind is to acknowledge you need it.

As you walk down life's path, you will face many uncertain and challenging circumstances. However, if you ask the Lord to lead you and guide you through it all, HE will show you the path of success in HIM—and GOD will protect you from the path of evil ambitions. When you proactively ask the Lord to lead you and guide you, you admit your dependence on Christ.

By praying this one-sentence prayer it will open doors that man cannot close and close doors that will lead you astray.
Lets pray:
Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner, please forgive me, lead me according to thy will and guide me in your truth and righteousness!

You just accomplish several things:
1. You acknowledge your need for GOD
2. You demonstrate that you do not have an arrogant, know-it-all spirit
3. You acknowledge that you need Jesus to lead you in all your life decisions
4. You are actively admitting that God is omnipresent, meaning HE sees things from a far superior perspective than you do; that HE knows more than you know; and that you need HIS wisdom.
This prayer shows an attitude and heart of humility, and GOD will reward you for it.

So go ahead and pray!
Simply close your eyes and bow your head right now, and petition the Father in Jesus’ name to lead you and guide you. HE will hear your prayer. And HE will help you navigate your life—and HIS plans for you—with infinite wisdom, as only HE can.
