Heyyyy! Happy independence day to all who feel and are LIBERATED and FREE! I certainly do, with that being said I AM launching my first of many health educational series. Since I believe children are our today and tomorrow I want to begin with them, addressing the elephant in the room...SAFE S*X! It IS happening and WILL happen one day, so let's make sure our youth are INFORMED about SAFE S*X. When you know better, most tend to do better. *xeducation *x

As s*xually transmitted infections (STIs) continue to rise in the United States, s*x education amongst teens is important now more than ever. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that nearly 20 million new STIs occur every year in this country. Half are among young people aged 15–24, along with 61% of all reported chlamydia cases (CDC, 2020).

Exposure to s*x as we age and develop is inevitable, especially in 2022. While we want our youth to be protected at all times and for s*xual maturity to be delayed for as long as possible, life happens and mother nature takes her course. This is why being armed with knowledge and proper education is important for youth to be able to independently make informed decisions as they develop.

While the high STI rates and health risks are alarming, it is even more concerning that most students are no longer receiving basic s*x and health education at school. Most times it is also not taught at home, leaving one too many people uninformed, uneducated, and unprepared to make an informed decision about SAFE S*X. As a family medicine physician, safe s*x promotion, education, and STD screening is a part of our daily practice for the general health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.

I will be hosting my first of many teen SAFE S*X health education series this Saturday, July 8th at 315 Commercial Drive Ste C8, for a small fee of $10/student. There will be a middle school session 12-1pm for students ages 11-13 and high school session 2-3pm for students ages 14-18.
