Assistants have somehow become controversial in this industry.
Some people think they’re unnecessary.
Some people think they “slow you down.”
Some people think pouring into someone else takes away from your own success.
But honestly?
Teaching someone else will refine you faster than almost anything.
Because the moment you have to explain why you do something…
you realize how deeply you actually understand your craft.
Or how much more intentional you need to become.
Assistants teach patience.
Leadership.
Communication.
Structure.
And they force you to raise your own standards because someone is now learning from your example not just your words.
Pouring into someone else has a way of sharpening you too.
Not because they take your place.
But because teaching always reveals the depth of what you truly know.
And some of the best growth in this industry happens when knowledge stops being guarded and starts being shared.

You’re not overwhelmed…
you just need a better system.
So many stylists in this industry think they’re the problem when really they’ve just been trying to build consistency without structure.
You’re not bad at extensions,
You’re not “too slow” because your installs take forever.
And you’re definitely not asking for too much by wanting extensions that are:
• comfortable
• seamless
• efficient
• and healthy for the client’s natural hair
A lot of the frustration stylists experience comes from trying to force methods to work that were never designed with long-term structure in mind.
That’s why American Row focuses on:

Part 2 of having clients that keep me humble and on my toes at all times 😭
And honestly?
I love her for it.
Because behind every hairstylist is at least one client whose ideas make you question everything for about 30 seconds before you just accept your fate.
This industry keeps us creative, adaptable, slightly concerned, and occasionally fighting for our lives behind the chair 😂
What would you do if your client came back and told you she sewed in her own extensions?
Because mine did. 😂
And honestly… I love her for it.
She keeps me on my toes, makes me think, and reminds me that every client is a little different.
Not every day behind the chair is predictable and that’s part of what makes this career so interesting.
