Your spray tan is only as good as your aftercare.

You can leave your appointment with the perfect color, but how your tan looks days later has a lot to do with how you treat your skin at home.

The goal is simple: keep your skin hydrated and avoid anything that speeds up exfoliation.

Moisturize every single day — morning and night if your skin tends to be dry. Use a spray-tan-safe body wash and moisturizer, keep showers short and lukewarm, and always pat your skin dry instead of rubbing.

While your tan is active, avoid exfoliating scrubs, loofahs, harsh body washes and excessive shaving. Long baths, hot tubs, chlorine, saunas and prolonged water exposure can also cause your tan to fade faster.

One of the biggest mistakes? Waiting until your skin looks dry to start moisturizing. Consistent hydration from day one helps your tan stay smoother and fade more evenly.

Remember, a spray tan develops on the outermost layer of your skin. As your skin naturally sheds, your tan fades with it. Proper aftercare won’t make your tan last forever, but it can make a huge difference in how long it looks good and how evenly it fades.
