The medical term for an acne lesion is comedo (or comedones). Comedones are masses of hardened sebum (oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells that have been trapped inside of a hair follicle. Basically when a hair follicle becomes blocked/clogged, all of this before-mentioned gunk multiplies at a much faster rate than our bodies know what to do with. All acne really just boils down to this process. How it’s presented just boils down to how your skin reacts, and how you respond. From blackheads to cysts, knowing the difference helps you treat them the right way.
