Rather, it is a nightmare causing women to grow heavy, coarse, masculine beards affecting anywhere from 15 to 30% of women who’ve undergone temporary laser hair removal treatments. What is truly appalling to me as an electrologist is that so called non-licensed electrologists would stoop so low as to convince women that the laser hair removal treatments work. The lowest form of human life in my opinion is the Electrologist that performs temporary laser hair removal. What my peers fail to mention is that Paradoxical Hypertrichosis is being caused by the laser hair removal treatments and then they turn around and treat again with the only permanent solution which is Electrolysis thus double dipping on you the patient; talk about a money grab...

It’s amazing how the FDA has failed to mention laser treatments after patients had suffered first, second and third degree burns from laser hair removal. Now they are doing it again with Paradoxical Induced Hypertrichosis. Laser Parlor companies are lying when they advertise Permanent Hair Removal. FDA Statutes forbid them to claim permanent hair removal. The only practitioners capable of achieving Permanent Hair Removal are professionally educated and trained, "State Licensed & Registered Electrologists."

Many Laser Parlor Operators slowly became aware over time that laser hair removal therapy stimulates hair growth soon after the laser was introduced in 1998. However, Laser Parlors knowingly spin a web of decption that Laser Hair Removal Treatments are safe, effective, and permanent when in fact they are actually stimulating heavy facial hair growth on all treated areas and most notably the face has heavy beard growth like a man.

Multiple cases of unwanted Paradoxical Hypertrichosis arrived soon after laser epilation in 1998. Many laser parlor operators did not want to believe their state of the art laser hair removal treatments made their facial hair problems ten times worse. In addition. broadband intense pulsed light has become a highly suspicious medical procedure hidden by unethical physicians. Nonetheless laser parlors owned by Laser Parlor Chains brazenly defy lawful FDA advertising laws and statutes that bar Laser Parlors from claiming "Permanent Hair Removal", "Painless Hair Removal" and advertising they do electrolysis under bait switch advertising tactics. Nonetheless the laser Parlors spend more trying to impress consumers when in reality their training program is not more than 50 hours total. However, the laser school they attended entire curriculum is a hoax. It’s totally Unethical for Laser Parlor Chains to lie like a cheap rug. To this very day laser parlor manufactures of laser machines have steadfastly refused to do a double blind study to prove whether or not laser hair removal works and is 100% safe. For 24 years Laser Operators claim they have got the red laser, yellow laser, blue laser, green laser, white lasers and even the Yag Laser however the best they can do is to turn their the lasers on low so their clients do not screech in pain and end up with third degree burns. In the end Laser Operators say, "The Laser does not work on white hairs, grey hair, blonde hairs and transparent hairs."

Laser epilator manufacturers claim to have completed single center studies that included all patients who underwent laser hair removal from 2218 to 2022. All or most cases of laser induced unwanted hair problems were assessed clinically by history; examination and hair growth were caused by long-pulsed alexandrite laser epilation. Nevertheless none of this information has been made public. In addition their study never included one or a group quality educated state licensed and registered Electrologists to a render a single professional opinion.

Some doctors reluctantly state, "Laser Induced Paradoxical Hypertrichosis clinical features of patients with post-laser AKA Paradoxical Hypertrichosis were compared with 50 patients randomly selected from among all those who had undergone laser hair removal at their center."

It’s my belief that certain unethical physicians claimed the results of 489 patients, without being specific and providing photographs of their post treatment laser patients. In addition they did not admit to a complete and independent double blind study. In essence it’s a whole bunch of over the top hoopla also known as misleading propaganda without any substantial study. They did state and pointed finger at the long-pulsed "Alexandrite Laser and reported increased hair growth after laser hair epilation." There is a longstanding a trend for this adverse effect to occur in all skin types plus they never mention the other. However as electrologist I have observed thick black hair from patients that have had intense hair growth of 75% of the face including the neck. However the laser parlor physician as compared with the unaffected comparison group has not been made available for the public at large... However a small number of laser parlor operators did not provide sufficient power to effectively test factors such as age, s*x, treatment settings, and number of treatments statistically.

As the crow flies laser parlor physicians need to have a verifiable double blind study of at least 1500 women that have had laser hair removal that resulted in Paradoxical Laser Hypertrichosis. I have seen six cases in a mere three months that have resulted in Paradoxical Hypertrichosis where women have developed a very heavy beard just like a man.

In essence if you have laser hair removal treatment than you should have the laser parlor operator attach a rider to your laser hair removal contract that requires the responsible party to pay for your electrolysis treatments should you come down with, Acute Paradoxical Hypertrichosis with a large increase of hair growth.

The history of Electrolysis and Electrology would surprise most people. My profession was founded in 1876 for the purpose of relieving "Trichiasis" (inflamed infected ingrown hairs of the eyelid). This condition left untreated can result in blindness. In 1952 the profession was among the first to use sophisticated solid-state equipment. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts formed a state board and began requiring licensing and registration for Electrologists in 1959, and in time there were similar state boards in 32 states (although Arizona still lacks one). In 1985 Computerized Programmable Epilators became available, and in 1996 the FDA upgraded electrolysis equipment to the status of a class one medical device. Electrologists alone have been granted the right by the FDA to legally claim Permanent Hair Removal while the laser hair removal fails in all categories. Our field is fully professional, a medical discipline in fact, and the reason for the virulent opposition to a state board here is the fact that many in the business would be out of work after failing the sort of examinations real Electrologists must pass to be licensed. These hold-outs would prefer 50-hour training they can breeze through, usually in weeks instead of years, ultimately at the expense of their patients. Many, “Threading Parlors claim that the process of Threading is a natural gentle method of removing hair that uses a twisted loop of 100 percent cotton thread rolled over your skin to grab and pull out your unwanted hair by its roots. However they fail to point out the truth and the real down side of threading is it’s just as bad if not worse than wholesale plucking and waxing. Fact and for the record any process that uses, “A twisted loop of 100 percent cotton thread rolled over your skin to grab and pull out your unwanted hair by the roots will damage the follicle structure.” When you rip, pluck and tweeze your facial hairs by threading you will regret the rest of your life.” Every form of waxing, tweezing, plucking and threading will permanently damage the root structure of every hair of your face.

This temporary form of hair removal will rob woman of their youth. Nothing will make a woman look older than unwanted chin hair, upper lip and neck hairs. When you pluck, tweeze, thread and wax hairs its rips the root from the blood supply and the germinative parts of the root shatter in little pieces while your blood nourishes the damaged root. Thus you will get 2, 3 or 4 shattered hairs for one plucked hair in addition your roots will become curved, distorted and tougher to treat.
In the beginning when your hairs were fine on your chin, upper lip, face and neck it did not bother you. However when your hairdresser recommended waxing those hairs you said yes. Later on two to three years later you have noticed your hairs have become darker, coarser and thicker and has upset you and your appearance to the point your are frustrated. The absolute worst part is that your same hairs keep getting darker, coarser and thicker and the size of the area you had originally had hairs have doubled. Then of course you roots have become deeper more distorted each and every time you thread, pluck, tweeze and wax your face only gets worse and it becomes more painful to thread, tweeze, pluck and wax.

On the other hand most Laser Parlor operators have only taken a paltry 50 hours of training and they do not realize Laser Hair Removal Machines emits dangerous, “Cancer Causing Ultra-Violet Radiation also known as UV Radiation.” It’s a known fact that Ultra-Violet Radiation triggers and stimulates dangerous types and forms of skin cancer that can seriously challenge or endanger your health and well being.

Finally a few more years have passed by and out frustration you went to different people with no improvement of your unwanted hair problem. You did not realize that Arizona does not license electrologists. You went to Laser Parlor Operators and learned their entire training course did not exceed more than fifty hours. You spent allot of money and all you have to show for it is that your unwanted hair problem is worse. I have been through all of that and it’s frustrating to say the least.
However I learned that all electrologists are not created equal and most electrologists in Arizona have never attended nor completed a professional electrolysis school were they have a license and registration to practice electrolysis.

Well I was different and while a resident of Massachusetts I was fortunate to have attended and graduated from Miss Kelly’s School Electrology in Quincy, Massachusetts. From 1976 to December of 1979 I worked my way through school while attending Miss Kelly’s School Electrology. That meant I worked from 70 to 80 hours per-week work including schooling. It was hard work but gratifying. To graduate I had to successfully pass a 2 Hour Written Examination of Scientific Theory with a One Hour Practical Examination. My Scientific Theory included 500 required Hours of Endocrinology, Histology, Biology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Anatomy, Electricity, Physiology, Sterilization and Sanitation. In addition we were required to complete 600 Hours of Practical Training under the supervision of the licensed registered electrologist instructors Diana Kelly and Lila Kelly.

California, the land of trendy so called fashionable hair removal where a few outmoded electrologists cling to the past trying to bring back a prehistoric old-fashioned practical application using their antique epilators. They call it the Two Hand Progressive Electrolysis Technique however 99 and 3/4 percent of America's licensed and registered electrologists do not use it because it reduces the effectiveness of your electrolysis treatments while reducing the clients progress to a snail's pace.

There is nothing new progressive about "The Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique" and the few electrologists who practice this obsolete gimmick need to go back to electrolysis school because they're so far behind the times they refuse to practice common sense electrolysis known as the Kelly Technique in practice since 1933.

What's the difference? The Kelly Technique is the accepted industry standard using the speedy efficient dual handed practical application technique adopted and used by 99 and 3/4% of US Electrologists in the Electrolysis Industry since 1933 to this very day. However it's 2013 and only 35% of America's electrologists use modern State of The Art Computerized Epilators that enhances the electrologist ability to treat 300 to 500 hairs treated per- hour versus 100 hairs per hour.Nevertheless there's a few electrologists using the obsolete "Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique"with their archaic non- computerized electrolysis epilators where they complete an unacceptable 50 to 100 hairs-per hour.

How Is The Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique Practiced?

"The Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique" is when the electrologist uses the left hand to grasp the old hair with forceps while they atempt to use their right hand for inserting the probe down the follicle shaft to the base of the papilla. Starting and during the treatments the electrologists use the remaining fingers to gently press and stretch the skin. The electrologist insert the probe down the follicle shaft and the blend current is applied and after three seconds you observe the Sodium Hydroxide Bubbles exiting from the or***ce of the hair. After the treatment the hair automatically release from being treated in the Blend Mode.

The Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique Is Lame,
After having tried the "The Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique" I can only say that for every hair treated I could effectively treat ten to fifteen hairs using the Kelly Practical Application Technique for all three modes Galvanic, Shortwave and Blend. The Kelly Practical Application is the accepted industry standard and most efficient dual handed practical application adopted and used by 99 and 3/4% of US Electrologists in the Electrolysis Industry since 1933 to this very day. For the record it's my professional belief that "The Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique is outdated, outmoded and any electrologist that uses it takes two steps backwards for one step.

The patient who volunteered for this treatment said, it was uncomfortable, painstaking slow coupled with a fair amount of discomfort. Nonetheless the final test was looking at the patients face and seeing most of hair hairs left untreated after a thirty minute treatment is unacceptable. Electrologists that cling to this technique should go back to electrolysis school or find another profession.
A professionally educated trained licensed electrologist will never acclimate to the "Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique" because we know it's professionally, ethically morally wrong since it violates the practical application of correct electrolysis procedure making the patients treatment longer and more expensive.

The Down Side of The Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique

On the other hand outdated electrologists that use the Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique are psychologically trapped where they refuse to upgrade their practical application out of fear of being humiliated from their professional peers. In addition they refuse to upgrade and use the modern computerized epilator. These outdated fools should advertise as "Prehistoric Electrologists & The Two Handed Regressive Electrolysis Technique". The treatment is painful, causes scabbing, scarring and pitting and is outmoded, outdated and ends up costing the consumer ten to twenty times as much as the Industry Standard.
The Dual Hand Kelly Practical Application America's Electrolysis Industry Standard.

Without one doubt the accepted Industry Standard known as the Kelly Technique is common sense electrolysis with a dual-handed practical application were the entire left hand and fingers stretch and position the skin in a multitude of opposing directions to achieve a firm Three Way Stretch. After three months to a year in electrolysis school both hands learn to work in unison and the stretching left hand is mutally coordinated with the multi-tasked right hand that also stretches the skin while simultaneously inserting the probe held like a pencil down the angle of the hair and shaft to the base of the papilla and applying the timed electrical current. With the forceps being cupped in the palm held between the first and second crease of the pinky finger. After treating the hair the forceps cupped in the right hand slides down the inside of the palm and protrudes out to grasps the hair with the tip of the forceps held by the thumb, index finger, middle-finger ring finger and anchored by the pinky finger pulls the hair out in the direction its growing from.

Working is unison this miracle of coordination is performed simultaneously by the right and left hand where it takes between four to seven seconds to treat each hair. This is common sense electrolysis to achieve permanent hair removal while a few outdated electrologists use the obsolete "Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique" which is awkward and painstakingly slow that it takes 90 seconds to two minutes to treat one hair. I feel sorry for any electrologist who went to an outdated school only to learn this less effective prehistoric technique where the treatment takes longer and cost more to remove your patients unwanted hair problem.

When it comes to facial hair removal the Kelly Technique trained the student to work from behind which cradles the patient head which in turn allows the electrologist to encompass and treat the patient's head and face. In addition electrolysis tables as Miss Kelly's School of Electrology where set in a narrow confines thus leaving the student electrologist one option for face work and you had to learn to work from behind which ensures that student electrologist would learn the back-shot, which is the most accurate and quickest of all insertions. In addition after instructing you in the basics Diana Kelly the instructor allowed you to develop your own individual style and technique as long your insertions remained accurate.

On the other hand outdated electrologists that use Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique are psychologically trapped where they refuse to upgrade their practical application out of humiliation from their professional peers. In addition they refuse to upgrade and use the modern computerized epilator. These outdated fools should be advertised as "Prehistoric Electrologists With The "Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique" is painful, causes scabbing, scarring and pitting and is outmoded, outdated and ends up costing the consumer ten to twenty times as much as the Industry Standard.

In my book every patient needs to see real progress after every treatment and treating a paltry 100 to 150 hairs per- hour is unacceptable when the "Industry Standard" known as the "Kelly Technique" has been available since 1933 and the electrologist can treat 300 to 500 hairs per-hour. Electrologists who use the Kelly Technique known as the Americans Electrolysis Industry Standard with a modern computerized epilator can easily authenticate from 300 to 500 hairs treated per-hour because the computerized epilators have counters. In addition the "Industry Standard Kelly Technique" improves accuracy and comfort plus it's superior in every mode using Galvanic, Blend and Short- wave. In my 36 years of professional experience I can say the "Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique" causes painful insertions in addition to plucking many of the hairs. However it’s my opinion that the “Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique” is painful time wasting form of practical application that results in inaccurate insertions and painful insertions.

In Summation,

An educated trained licensed and registered electrologist will never use the "Two Handed Progressive Electrolysis Technique" because it's professionally, ethically and morally wrong since it violates the practical application of correct electrolysis procedure making the patients treatment longer, more expensive and unsuccessful.

They have also taken a dual written and practical State Board of Electrologists examination and successfully passed them, and are currently a licensed and registered. Licensed and registered have a responsibility to obey the rules and regulations of their State Board of Electrologists..

Even though my practice is in Scottsdale, Arizona I run it as if it were in Massachusetts. That means my office, equipment and treatments are accountable to a State Board Inspector who could walk in at any time and inspect my office. This includes equipment, sterilization and all professional requirements. If you are unconvinced about your Electrologist's credentials, ask for their pocket license and call their State Board to verify them if you are doubtful. These electrologists purchase memberships and credentials to electrologists' associations that do not require an electrologist to be licensed and registered in addition they use counterfeit bloated certificates, exaggerated titles and fancy schmancy ornate diplomas to appear professional. They often claim they are a certified electrologist. They put multiple initials after their names and list non-licensed organizations there members to look impressive, but you would be surprised that you could complete their 50 to 12O hour course they took in with ease. You would also be amazed that some organizations are too lax in checking credentials. However ask yourself would you go to physician who took such a course? These quick-buck diplomas are often called "Certified Professionally Trained Electrologist", "Professionally Certified Instructed" and so on. Whenever you see "Certified" that means that 99.75% of them are non-licensed and non-registered. Beware of these electrologists because they have minimal rock bottom training and some have dubious ethics to say the least. Be aware that this is not a profession that can be mastered in 120 hours of training. One should doubt anyone who claims a standard of professional ability from these correspondence and certification courses. You should ask yourself how can one non-licensed electrologist confer a professional title on another one?

⭐Tsk, tsk the one star electrologist limits their practice to states where there is no state board of electrologists, because they know they would be shut down by a state board for the simple reason that their credentials lack professional training and their ethics would not survive professional scrutiny. These so-called electrologists have no scruples or ethics, they adopt any title they see fit, their training is minimal with the average being 50 to 120 hours and very often they use faddish, unproven treatments. They use lasers, electric tweezers, microwave treatments, gels, ointments, Pico-flash and will tell you electrolysis is painful when it is not. After advertising themselves as electrologists they will switch you over to the dangerous ineffective laser, microwave, intense light treatments often without a physician present, as required by law. They lie to you while telling you the laser isn't painful when the F.D.A. ruled that it's illegal for them to advertise or claim permanent and painless hair removal. They also illegally advertise permanent hair removal by laser. The F.D.A. has ruled that only Electrologists may advertise "Permanent Hair Removal." So if a so-called certified electrologist wants to give you laser treatments, ask them to put it in writing that it will be permanent and painless like they claim Laser Parlors also will ask you to pay up to $3000.00 in advance and they will finance and it will cost you a fortune in interest alone. Never pay in advance for Laser Treatments because if you can't tolerate them you still have to pay for them.

Beware of Fake Arizona Electrolysis & Electrology Schools

When in Arizona beware of electrologists that claim to be certified professional electrologists, certified clinical electrologists, certified medical electrologists and the certified clinical and medical electrologists are store bought diplomas. If you have the slightest doubt or inkling they are not licensed call their state board of electrologists for verification. Make sure you call their State Board Of Electrologists, not the American Electrology Association who certified them. The only people that can license and register electrologist is ITS governmental State Board of Electrologists. If an electrologist claims to be a Certified Professional Electrologist they are not licensed and registered. There was an electrologist in Prescott, Arizona known as Betty Sullivan who claimed to be licensed but after an investigation they found out she was a licensed manicurist from Minnesota who does not have a state board of electrologists.

It's a known fact that certification titles do not mean a person is a state licensed and registered electrologist and good example is the Certified Professional Electrologist course. Always remember non-licensed electrologists try to appear and want you to think they are licensed and registered as an electrologist, example they use Jane Doe, C.P.E. Certified Professional Electrologist. Bonafide licensed and registered electrologists will always advertise, Kimberly Williams, R.E., Massachusetts Licensed & Registered electrologist.

For the record it is my professional opinion that the Certified Professional Electrologist is a paltry certification course by itself does not prepare a layperson in any form or manner to be able to perform a safe competent electrolysis treatment. These questionable electrolysis certifications courses and diplomas appear, infer and bestow ornate diplomas and titles with credentials upon undeserving frauds who think that its alright to purchase an education and their credentials even the course they took was from 50 to 120 hours long. Additionally the certification tests are elementary grade school level hoaxes consisting of simple true and false and multiple-choice questions. In addition they do not require a high school diploma, background check nor do they require individuals to take an electrolysis "Practical Application" examination in any form or manner to prove they are competent. However in the end these desktop diploma mills turn out Certified Quacks that are an insult to honest licensed and registered electrologists that earned their credentials and successfully completed an accredited electrolysis school and passed their dual state board examinations.

Other ways that non-licensed electrologists try to appear as licensed electrologists is to join multiple electrolysis associations, who do not require an electrologist to be educated, state licensed and registered as an electrologist for membership. I repeat these associations do not emphasize nor require state license and registration as an electrologist for membership nevertheless they wholeheartedly promote the proliferation of themselves as poorly uneducated non-licensed electrologists.
