Heeeeey! I’m Nicole, the maker behind Owl and Kestrel soaps. I have never introduced myself here, and very rarely show my mug on social media. Shout out to my fellow introverts! I am (in no particular order) a kitchen herbalist, a wildflower enthusiast, an avid hiker, a wife, a shameless cat lady, a non-profit recruiting professional, and someone who feels naked without earrings. 🌼Calendula season🌼

I have plans to work with and learn more from this versatile, cheerful, generous flower this season. Keep an eye out for infused oil, facial toner, and, of course, calendula oat and honey soap.

Trying my hand at an old-fashioned perfumery technique called enfleurage. It’s a simple method of extracting the scent of delicate flowers such as lilac or rose into a fat. I am using refined coconut oil here because it is scentless. I will change out the flowers every day for seven days, and hopefully by seven days I will have a lilac solid perfume. Thanks Katie for the inspiration!

🌼In The Weeds🌿

My favorite springtime soap is back! Handmade in small batches with rich oils infused with skin-loving spring herbs like dandelion blossoms, violet leaf and flower, and chickweed. Lightly scented with a citrus blend.

Dandelion 🌼 Lemon 🍋 Sun 🌞

Bring a bit of sunlight into the bath with you with these golden bars of bubbly soap! Oils infused with dandelion blossoms and cocoa butter create a silky, beautiful lather. Colored with organic carrot-turmeric juice and scented with a light lemon essential oil. Link to purchase in bio.

🌲Forest Floor🌲

This soap is made with oil infused with Douglas-fir needles (Pseudotsuga menziesii) gathered from fallen branches, Douglas-fir tea, and a bit of fir essential oil. I added no colorants - the pale green color is from the fir alone. The scent of this soap reminds me of hiking in the forest in summer - that sweet, earthy smell of sun-baked pine needles and dirt.

🍃 Cottonwood Soap🍃

We are cautiously transitioning into springtime here in the Pacific Northwest. It has been an exceptionally long winter. The cottonwood trees have begun bursting into leaf and flower, and the gorgeous sweet smell of the exploding buds permeates the air. It’s the singular smell of springtime to me.

These soaps are made with olive oil infused with resinous buds harvested off of fallen branches of the cottonwood (Populus trichocarpa) tree by me this past winter. The rich caramel color and heady scent come directly from Mother Nature - zero added colorants or fragrance.
