The musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause 09/24/2024

So much new research and thoughts around "The musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause" that, IMO, massage therapists should be aware of! Here is a really informative research article that came out in July: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/13697137.2024.2380363

The musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause Fifty-one percent of humans are born with ovaries. As the ovarian production of estrogen diminishes in midlife and ultimately stops, it is estimated that more than 47 million women worldwide enter ...

I have two tickets for the 35th Annual Boston International Trauma Conference from May 1st through May 4th. I am a little over-committed so I am just going to buy virtual tickets and skip the travel. The in-person tickets cost $500 each, but I would be happy to let someone have them for $300 each.

I am finishing up writing content for my week-long Deep Lomi Mastery workshop in Seattle this week, and I was reading Marianne Williamson’s Our Deepest Fear quote and wondered how it might look from a massage therapist's perspective, specifically my perspective. Here is what I came up with:

My deepest fear is not that I am inadequate. My deepest fear is that I will not be brave enough to show up for you when you need me to. That I will not trust my knowledge, experience, and intuition in the most important moment to do so. I ask myself, who am I to assume that I know what you need at this moment? To assume that you want me to follow my intuition instead of just staying on the beaten path.

Yet, why shouldn't I trust my training, intuition, and experience? I am a conduit of healing and comfort. Playing it safe doesn't foster healing in the world. There is no wisdom in holding back my skills and compassion, fearing it might overshadow others. We are all created to share our unique gifts, yet so many of us never even reach for this potential. I am here to share the healing abilities that reside within me and bring them alongside the healing abilities that reside within us all. So that we all may achieve our universal potential. By confidently developing, sharing, and teaching my healing touch, I unknowingly inspire others to embrace their own gifts. As I overcome my own doubts, my presence naturally empowers others to conquer theirs. So I will.

I gave it to my participants as an exercise to try. If you enjoy writing, maybe even if you do not, how would this quote look for you?

What is your deepest fear about _______________ ?

This is a video of a floor stretching/Thai Massage practice session that I did with Daisy, who is one of my incredible massage therapists at Massage Reimagined in Seattle, Washington.

Some of the techniques that I use in this video are a little advanced AND MAY NOT BE SAFE FOR SOME RECEIVERS TO RECEIVE OR SOME GIVERS TO GIVE.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS
The intended audience for this video is other professional massage therapists, bodyworkers, personal trainers and yoga practitioners as well as people who have attended one of my massage workshops.

Please remember that if you are stretching a client or even just a partner or friend, make sure that you understand enough about general anatomy as well as their specific anatomy so that you do not put them in a compromising position or stretch them beyond their abilities and/or limitations.
