This is hard to write, but people need to know what happened to Gerald.

He didn’t lose his life because nothing could be done—he lost it because action wasn’t taken when it should have been.

From day 1, they knew he was suffering from cerebral edema. They also knew they did not have the capability to properly treat a neuro patient like him. The standard of care in that situation is clear: transfer immediately to a facility that can.

But they didn’t.

Not on day 1.
Not on day 2.
Not on day 3.
Not even on day 4.

It wasn’t until day 5 that they finally began “trying” to transfer him—and by then, it was too late. He had already suffered a catastrophic brain injury, and no facility would accept him.

Let that sink in.

Four full days where something could have been done… and nothing was.

And it didn’t stop there.

A critical medication that should have been closely monitored wasn’t. Because of that failure, his blood pressure dropped to a dangerously low, borderline fatal level—making an already critical situation even worse.

This was not inevitable.
This was not unavoidable.
This was a failure to act.

If Gerald had been transferred on day 1—or any day before day 5—his chances of survival would have been almost certain.

He deserved timely care.
He deserved proper treatment.
He deserved a chance.
