You may have heard of Japan’s famous Golden Week in spring—but this September, we’re bringing a much rarer Japanese holiday tradition to Port Angeles: Silver Week!

✨ What is Silver Week?

Silver Week is a special stretch of autumn holidays that only happens when Japan’s calendar lines up just right. In 2026, it creates a five-day holiday from September 19–23—the first full Silver Week since 2015!

At the heart of Silver Week are two meaningful Japanese holidays:

👵👴 Respect for the Aged Day — 敬老の日 (Keirō no Hi)
A day to honor our elders and show appreciation for their wisdom, experience, and contributions to our families and communities.

🍁 Autumnal Equinox Day — 秋分の日 (Shūbun no Hi)
A day marking the changing of the seasons, traditionally associated with family, remembrance, and welcoming the arrival of autumn.

And in 2026, something special happens between them: September 22 becomes a Citizens’ Holiday (国民の休日), connecting the holidays into the rare celebration known as Silver Week.
