"Clients Who Can't Afford Your New Prices"
This one's going to hurt a bit, but we need to talk about it.
You raise your prices. And a client you've had for years says she can't afford it anymore. Someone you genuinely care about. Someone whose kids you've watched grow up through her phone photos.
It feels awful. Like you're abandoning people. Like maybe you're being greedy.
But here's the hard truth I learned the expensive way - your business can't survive on what people can afford. It has to run on what your services are actually worth.
You can offer a transition period if you want. Maybe a loyalty discount for six months to help them adjust. But eventually, some clients will price themselves out. And that's not your failure or theirs. It's just economics.
The space they leave creates room for clients who can pay your worth. Clients who don't make you feel guilty about charging properly. Clients who value what you do enough to pay for it.
It feels wrong at first, like you're abandoning people who've been loyal to you. You're not. You're building a sustainable business that'll actually be here for the clients who do stay.
After seven years of chair rental, I can tell you this - caring about your clients and charging properly aren't opposites. They actually go together. Because you can't serve anyone well if you're constantly stressed about money. If you're bitter and resentful because you're undercharging.
The clients who stayed when I raised my prices? They're still with me. They understood. The ones who left? I hope they found someone perfect for their budget. No hard feelings. Just business.
Your worth isn't determined by who can afford you. It's determined by the value you deliver.
Remember that when you're lying awake at 2am feeling guilty about your new price list.
