But I still wanted to share this because I think a lot of people don’t realize there’s actually real science behind professional airbrush tanning and matching self tanning to skin types and everyone has a different skin type.

In the video, I talk about DHA, which stands for Dihydroxyacetone. DHA is the active ingredient found in ALL self-tanning products and spray tanning solutions. It’s basically the ingredient that reacts with the skin to create the bronzed color.

One of the biggest problems is that many self-tanning products sold in stores don’t disclose the DHA percentage, which makes it difficult for consumers to know whether the formula is actually right for their skin type.

Another issue I see often is people applying way too much product, especially on the hands, wrists, elbows, knees, and ankles, which can also cause the tan to develop darker, uneven, or orange-looking.

Professional airbrush tanning is very different because trained professional airbrush tanners understand skin types, undertones, DHA percentages, proper application techniques, and use professional spray tanning equipment designed to create a much finer and more even mist on the skin.

That’s why professional customized airbrush tans usually look smoother, more natural, and often last longer compared to applying self-tanners at home.
