Introducing Massage Minutes

Massage therapy is one of the most misunderstood healthcare professions.

Many people think of massage as an occasional luxury or a way to relax after a stressful week. While relaxation is certainly one of its greatest benefits, it’s only part of the story.

Massage therapy can play an important role in supporting healthy movement, recovery, stress management, and overall well-being. Every session has a purpose, and no two massages should be exactly alike.

That’s why we’re excited to launch Massage Minutes—a new educational series where we’ll simplify the science behind massage therapy and help you better understand your body.

Each week, we’ll explore topics like:
-How your muscles and fascia work
-The different types of massage and who they’re best for
-Common pain patterns and injuries
-Recovery and performance
-Frequently asked questions
-Massage myths vs. facts

Whether you’re a first-time client or have been receiving massage for years, our goal is to help you feel more informed and confident about your health.

Minute Takeaway:
Massage isn’t just about helping you relax—it’s about supporting how your body moves, recovers, and functions every day.

What massage question have you always wanted answered? Drop it in the comments! It may be featured in an upcoming Massage Minutes post.

Wellness, Woven In

Stress isn’t just something you feel.

It’s something your body experiences.

Your nervous system has two primary modes:
Rest & Restore (parasympathetic)
Fight or Flight (sympathetic)

Both are important. The problem isn’t stress itself—it’s when your body never gets the signal that the danger has passed.

When you remain in a constant state of stress, your body may begin to prioritize survival over healing. Over time, this can contribute to:

• increased inflammation
• muscle tension and pain
• poor sleep quality
• digestive changes
• brain fog and difficulty concentrating
• lowered immune function
• fatigue and burnout

The good news?

You can teach your nervous system that it’s safe.

Simple practices like slow, diaphragmatic breathing, walking outdoors, quality sleep, stretching, laughter, meaningful connection, and quiet moments of stillness all help activate the parasympathetic nervous system—the part of the nervous system responsible for rest, recovery, and healing.

Wellness isn’t about eliminating stress.

It’s about creating enough moments of safety that your body remembers how to heal.

Did you know chronic jaw tension can affect much more than just your jaw?

TMJ dysfunction can contribute to:
• Jaw pain and clicking
• Headaches and migraines
• Teeth grinding and clenching
• Neck and shoulder tension
• Ear pressure or discomfort
• Facial pain and tightness

Spa 31 is now certified to offer specialized TMJ Release Therapy.

This focused treatment works with the muscles of the jaw, face, neck, and shoulders to help reduce tension, improve mobility, and encourage relaxation throughout the entire head and neck region.

Many clients are surprised to learn that the source of their headaches, facial tension, or neck discomfort may actually begin with the jaw.

If you wake up clenching your teeth, experience frequent tension headaches, or constantly feel tight through your face and neck, TMJ Release may be a great addition to your wellness routine.

Men’s Health Month Spotlight: Cupping Therapy

If you’ve ever dealt with tight shoulders, a stiff back, sore muscles, or that feeling that your body just won’t loosen up, cupping may be worth exploring.

Cupping uses gentle decompression instead of pressure. While massage pushes into the tissue, cups create a lifting effect that can help increase circulation, improve mobility, and release areas of tension.

Many clients enjoy cupping as part of their massage because it may help:

✔ Relieve muscle tension
✔ Improve range of motion
✔ Support athletic recovery
✔ Promote circulation
✔ Address stubborn areas of tightness
✔ Help you move more comfortably

The marks sometimes left behind are not bruises. They are temporary discolorations caused by changes in circulation and typically fade within several days.

Whether you’re lifting weights, working a physically demanding job, spending hours at a desk, or simply carrying stress in your shoulders and back, recovery matters.

Your body works hard for you every day.

Take care of it.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear:

“I need the deepest massage possible.”

But more pressure does not always mean better results.

At Spa 31, we customize massage therapy based on:
✔ pain patterns
✔ inflammation
✔ stress levels
✔ mobility
✔ nervous system response
✔ recovery needs

Sometimes your body needs focused deep tissue work.
Sometimes it needs therapeutic recovery work.
And sometimes it needs both.

The goal isn’t just pain during the massage—
the goal is RESULTS afterward.

If you’re unsure what to book, our team can help guide you toward the best fit for your body and goals.

BIG NEWS FROM SPA 31

Growth is happening again… and we couldn’t be more excited. 💙

As many of you know, Spa 31 has been blessed with incredible growth over the past several years, and because of your support, we’re expanding our team once again.

Please help us welcome:

~Lauren B. & Lauren N. – both recent graduates of our very own 31 Institute and two of our most sought-after student massage therapists. Their talent, professionalism, and natural ability to help clients feel better made them stand out long before graduation, and we’re thrilled they are officially joining the Spa 31 team.

~ Kynna is expanding her availability by returning to her esthetics roots while continuing to offer massage therapy. Many of our longtime clients remember that Kynna first joined Spa 31 as an esthetician, and we’re excited for her to once again share her passion for skincare while still caring for massage clients.

~Madelaine has joined our front desk team as an Experience Coordinator, working alongside our favorite Client Concierge, Delaney, to help create an even smoother, more personalized experience from the moment you walk through our doors.

Of course, Tyleigh, Ella, Tara, Michelle, Faith and Alisha are still here to offer all the massage, skin care, and head spa services, as usual.

More providers means more appointment availability—for now.

If you’ve been waiting for:
✔️ Massage appointments after work
✔️ Weekend availability
✔️ A facial appointment without a long wait
✔️ An opportunity to experience a head spa treatment
✔️ A chance to become a regular client

Now is the time. 903-487-0750 or book online at spa 31.com
