Sebaceous filaments may look a lot like blackheads but are VERY different!

Sebaceous filaments are tiny oil plugs & dead skin cells that build up within our pores. They are most commonly found in the more oily areas of the face especially your T-zone & are most commonly found on the skin around your nose. They appear as tiny black or dark grey dots or specks on the surface of your pores, but look superrrr similar to your typical blackhead.

Unlike blackheads, sebaceous filaments are NOT clogged pores.

Blackheads are clogged pores. They are a form of acne known as an open comedone. When too much sebum is produced, & mixes with dead skin cells, dirt & bacteria that clogs the pores, it leads to the formation of a blackhead. When the blackhead slowly gets pushed toward the skin’s surface to be expelled, it comes in contact with the air, oxidizing it & turning the tip of the oil plug black.

Blackheads can go away with professional extractions & using the right skincare products!

Unlike blackheads, you can never completely get rid of sebaceous filaments because they are a natural part of the skin. You can extract them, but they’ll come right back usually around 30 days or less for those with very oily skin. They’re something everyone has, and most people won’t notice them.

Exfoliating is a super important part of your skin routine but sometimes we may be using the wrong exfoliant without knowing it.

St Ive’s Apricot Scrub contain tiny fragments of apricot pits that function as a physical exfoliant. When you rub the scrub on your face, the pieces of pit scrape off dead skin cells. Unfortunately, they can also create micro-injuries in your skin, as the particles are often too abrasive for the skin of the face.

Using this exfoliant can cause inflammation & small tears in the skin, & potentially even lead to infection. Apricot scrubs can also weaken the skin barrier, leaving your complexion red & irritated.
