In honor of 🌈 month, I’m resharing Maddy’s story (+ a little more) in a new blog post!

Maddy came in for a lesson a few years ago. She wanted to feel pretty without feeling over done, as makeup was completely new to her. How she felt, by the end of her lesson, is still one of the my career highs to this day 🩷. I don’t often share a lot of my clients’ personal journeys, out of respect for their privacy. Maddy’s encouragement to share hers, especially with other members of the trans community, was truly special!

This was my first time attempting the Igari style of blush, and I found that I just couldn’t break my more western makeup artistry “tendencies.” Avoiding subtle contouring and bronzer just are NOT my style, so yeah….both of those elements were also a part of this look, even though both are typically avoided in Igari makeup. Despite its lack of authenticity, I was still really proud with how it turned out!

I’ve never been an expert at East Asian makeup styles (it’s not how I learned, not a style that is often requested from my clients, nor is it something I’ve ever liked on myself) but I’m learning!

Daytime/Tuesday makeup using ALL Asian owned, Asian founded brands! (I tried to record a video of the actual application but it was TOO hard. I didn’t know how to position my phone, I kept running out of memory on my phone so my recordings kept being cutoff, and wasted 2ish hours trying to edit what I was able to record 🙄…unsuccessfully.) This was the best I could come up with. Maybe I’ll try to edit it again…when I have a few more hours to spare:

(NOTE: the before and after pics are screen grabs from videos I tried to record. Because…of course, I forgot to take some actual pictures while focusing on getting videos. I can’t ever remember to do both! At this point, all of my content should just be how hard it is for me to create content.)
