This summit was about education, support, collaboration and reminding stylists that they do not have to do this work alone.

And for that, we are deeply grateful.

Our team recently came together for the N Natural Styling Summit where we spent time learning, practicing, and having deeper conversations around natural hair care, loc maintenance, hair health, product knowledge, and scalp concerns. We had the opportunity to learn from natural hair and loc experts through both hands-on education and real conversations about the challenges many clients are experiencing today.

The goal is always to keep growing so we can continue giving our clients thoughtful, informed care every time they sit in our chair. Hair is constantly evolving, and we believe our education should evolve with it.

There’s always a time to be humble, this isn’t one of them.

If you know someone in the industry who is tired of working alone send them this. There are teams out there with people on staff where their entire job is to support the stylist(s). I’ve always believed this was a necessary part of the puzzle and with the help of many we’ve built our team of stylist to 25.

I started this salon in 2012. A little naive, very green but focused on one goal…. And it wasn’t the client. Support for the very people who service the clients.

I have never looked around at my industry and thought “We aren’t doing right by the client.” I looked around then (2012) and now and feel the stylists need more support. It’s insane that an industry that historically uplifts the community as a whole and allows entrepreneurs longevity lacks a system that supports the very people who show up everyday in the name of service.

I will always say team salons are better because we are. We’re better for the stylist who needs to call out for a day of rest. We’re better for the clients who may need another opinion and I believe we are best for the industry as a whole. A team based salon must do right by its people meaning decisions are made differently. Access to various perspectives are available. At the end of the day when you want a break, you can take it because someone else is there to hold space for you.

This Tuesday I am immensely proud that my salon is holding an internal summit. How all of our speakers are unbelievably talented, vetted and local is a miracle I can’t explain but I’m here for it.

For our clients who support us, thank you. We’re able to show up for our team because of you. Our team is able to show up for you because of things like this. It’s an ecosystem I’m immensely proud of. This summit boasts 6 speakers and 17 attendees. It’s not just free for our team to attend, they’re getting paid to attend.
