A little PSA about GLP-1 medications + your hair 🤍

This is NOT a judgment post. I am 100% supportive of you making whatever decisions are right for your health and your health journey. ❤️

I’m simply sharing something I’ve been seeing more and more frequently behind the chair over the past couple of years.

I’ve had so many women come to me frustrated and confused about changes happening to their hair while taking GLP-1 or other weight-loss medications—increased shedding, thinning, breakage, brittle or dry hair, and an overall change in hair health.

I am NOT a doctor, and I’m not here to tell anyone what medications they should or shouldn’t take. I’m simply sharing what I’ve personally seen as a hairstylist.

One thing I wish more people understood is that when hair changes are related to something happening internally—rapid weight loss, nutritional changes, hormonal shifts or medication side effects—your hairstylist cannot fix the root cause.

But there ARE things we can do to help protect the hair you have:

✨ Consider taking a break from lightening
✨ Prioritize adequate protein and nutrition
✨ Reevaluate your shampoo + conditioning routine
✨ Use weekly restorative/deep-conditioning treatments
✨ Reduce excessive heat styling
✨ Be gentle with brushing and detangling
✨ Keep up with regular trims

And if you’re experiencing significant or sudden hair loss, please talk to your doctor. We can see what’s happening to your hair, but we can’t diagnose why.

I’ve seen hair changes with pregnancy, hormones, stress, illness and nutritional changes—but lately, I’ve noticed a significant increase in hair concerns among clients experiencing major weight loss and/or taking weight-loss medications.

So if this is happening to you, you are not crazy, and it doesn’t necessarily mean your hairstylist did something wrong. Sometimes we’re simply seeing the result of something happening inside the body.

My job is to help you understand what I’m seeing, protect your hair as much as possible, and work WITH you through that season.

As a hairstylist, I’d rather help you keep your hair looking good than make you feel like you have to disappear because money is tight.

If you’re on a budget, tell me. We can make a plan. Maybe that means a lower-maintenance color, skipping a few extras, stretching appointments a little longer, or finding something that works without wrecking your bank account.

I’m never going to judge you for choosing groceries, bills, or your kids over your hair. Life happens.

I believe great hair shouldn’t only be for people with unlimited spending money. I’ll always do my best to keep my services affordable and work with you however I can.
