September is Su***de Prevention Month, a month where I’m especially loud about mental health, taking care of yourself, and reminding people that it’s okay to ask for help. This month holds a very deep meaning for me, as I’ve unfortunately lost a few people I held near and dear to my heart.

I’ve struggled with my own mental health, and I still do, especially after the loss of my mom. I also grew up with a mom who struggled with BPD, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation after going more than 40 years being misdiagnosed.

I’m incredibly thankful that she taught me from a young age that mental health wasn’t something to be ashamed of or a taboo subject. I’ve been in that place myself, where it felt like giving up was the only solution to the problems I was facing.

So this is your reminder: you are loved. You are appreciated. You matter. And you are never as alone as you may feel sometimes. Take it minute by minute, hour by hour, and day by day. You don’t have to have everything figured out right now.

Please check in on your friends and family. Be kind to the people around you, and remember to be kind to yourself, too. Never be afraid to help someone you care about connect with professional support.
