And before anybody gets defensive—this is not about treating outside of your scope or pretending to be competent in something you’re not. Referring a client out when you genuinely don’t have the training to safely treat their condition? That’s responsible. But proudly deciding you have no interest in learning how to work with skin that looks different from the clients you’re comfortable treating? That’s a completely different conversation.

We work in SKIN. Different Fitzpatrick types can respond differently to inflammation, heat, exfoliation, injury, pigmentation triggers, and corrective treatments—which is exactly why education matters.

To me, saying, “I’m going to stand ten toes down and simply not treat those clients” shouldn’t be the goal. The goal should be: How can I become more educated, more competent, and more capable of serving the diverse skin that walks through my door?

You don’t have to know everything. But you should be willing to learn.
