When it comes to skin care, it’s never been easier to be knowledgeable about products and their ingredients !

HBO’s new documentary, "Not So Pretty" initiates a great convo around knowing where your “personal care products” come from and the importance of educating yourself on ingredients etc.

Similarly, when it comes to ingredient education, I have always appreciated Paula Begoun - she was a pioneer in ingredient sleuthing ;) and released a book in 1991 that I was told in esthetic school “savvy women used to terrorize the beauty floor” (in department stores ofc lol).

Another great resource that I stumbled onto about 10 yrs ago while brand consulting is:
https://www.beautypedia.com/about-beautypedia/ -

Beautypedia helps to guide one thru the very overwhelming world of skincare and skincare ingredients - for example, just because an ingredient might have the potential to irritate, doesn’t mean you totally need to toss it out, instead you just use it intermittently.

My favorite look from last night, but I don’t know I might be a little biased 😉 prep: with an emphasis on facial massage

After taking a couple days off to travel, Ive felt extra grateful being in the space the last few days. I've spent the last 5 years concepting Practise and couldn't be happier to finally have a place in the city to share my philosophy of approaching the skin from the inside/out, giving clients the tools for healing, detoxifying, and balancing long after leaving the chair. I'm so excited to share more thats to come to Practise this year ✨

As estheticians, we not only build our practices and techniques based on hours and hours education and re-certifications, but also from real time experience as we
work on our client’s skin. We inquire, we analyze, we study, and we consult all in order to develop a clearer understanding of how to best meet each client’s unique need. Over time, as we work with hundreds to thousands of different humans through the course of our careers, we all discover that there is no simple, one dimensional, one size fits all approach to skin care that can be condensed into a 120 second post - there is so much more to it!

I love clients that understand this..

Just know that as estheticians we’re here to be resources for you so you can flourish, and look and feel your very best - so tap into your esthetician/ skincare therapist and find the help you need to get your skin where you want it to be! x

I knew I wanted something matte black and sculpted for our new space (don’t ask why, lol) at . Whenever I have a certain concept or aesthetic in mind, it generally evolves into days or weeks of deep searching until I find what my mind's eye wants - and at last, I stumbled upon this Wabi Sabi vase. In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi (侘寂) is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, or incomplete" in nature, and is prevalent throughout all forms of Japanese art.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few weeks later, this vase (pictured) arrived; perfectly packed and even more impressive in person. It had come all the way from Ukraine, made by a Ukrainian woman, Anna, who has a beautiful collection of vintage glass and pottery. The shape and texture of the vase were perfect, and the angles and layers reminded me of face shapes and layers of skin (weird, I know, but naturally I love it more!).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Anyway, yesterday Anna sent me this message.. (next slide) and my heart literally broke. It reminded me that there are so many little details of day to day life that I often take for granted (like shipping and receiving items) so to sit with the reality that when her world stopped, it REALLY stopped on many different levels, was very sobering.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With all that in mind, I purchased one of Anna's virtual cards, which was just a small way to help; it was also just as much a gift to me as it was to her, on so many levels. If you’d like to help as well, I've added the link to her shop in my bio. 💙💛
