My chocoholic mother came to visit me in Alaska! For a late mother's Day gift I told her that we could build a soap for her! She wanted to bathe in chocolate and pair unique Alaskan herbs. Surprisingly there are tons of benefits in doing so. I introduce to you, our latest creation (and it smells like chocolate):
Nana's Chocolate Mousse - Moose (ingredients listed below)
Oils & Butters
Cocoa Butter: Rich in antioxidants, deeply moisturizes, protects skin, and adds natural chocolate aroma.
Grass-fed Tallow: Nourishes deeply, mimics human sebum for excellent absorption, anti-inflammatory, heals dry skin.
Shea Butter: Rich in vitamins A & E, repairs and softens skin, anti-inflammatory, improves elasticity.
Olive Oil: Gentle and conditioning, high in oleic acid for supple, soft skin, very nourishing.
Coconut Oil: Adds fluffy lather, lightly cleansing, antibacterial and antifungal properties.
Herbs
Fireweed: Anti-inflammatory, soothes irritated skin, symbolic of clarity and renewal.
Calendula: Powerful skin healer, reduces redness, promotes cell turnover, antibacterial.
Peony: Rich in antioxidants, softens and brightens skin, emotionally calming.
Additives
Sea Salt: Adds minerals for silky lather, hardens bar, and creates a spa-like feel.
Cocoa Powder: is a good source of antioxidants, including flavonoids, which can help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals and environmental stressors.
These antioxidants can help combat signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines, and promote a more youthful appearance. Cocoa powder can act as a gentle exfoliant, helping to remove dead skin cells and reveal smoother, brighter skin. The nourishing and moisturizing properties of chocolate can contribute to improved skin texture, making it feel softer and more radiant.
Homemade Vanilla: Antioxidant-rich, warm and comforting aroma, pairs perfectly with chocolate theme.
Essential Oils
Patchouli: Deep, earthy, grounding aroma; promotes skin repair and calms inflammation.
Wild Orange: Bright, citrusy, uplifting scent; mildly astringent and skin-brightening.
Geranium: Floral, sweet, balances sebum, and soothes redness in skin.
Frankincense: Resinous, grounding; supports skin healing and reduces irritation.

Specialty soap bar! One of my favorite things to do is to fulfill specialty orders. My good friend Barbara Kennedy commissioned me to build a pine tar soap, that is meant for mosquito repellent. When I say 'build' I mean build because every ingredient has purpose. I introduce to you:
Camp Cloak (benefits and ingredients listed below)
Medicinal Pine Tar Soap
This soap isn’t just for cleaning, it’s like a forest-scented first-aid kit in a bar.
Key Medicinal Benefits:
Grass-Fed Tallow (35%) (Primary Carrier Oil)
Rich in vitamins A, D, E, K, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA).
Its bio-identical fatty acid profile, to humans, allows it to pe*****te deeply into skin layers, carrying herbal and essential oil properties with it.
Intensely nourishing for dry, cracked, or inflamed skin. Promotes skin barrier repair.
Neem Oil (5%)
Strong antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Traditionally used for treating eczema, psoriasis, ringworm, athlete’s foot, lice, and scabies.
Insect-repelling due to azadirachtin (a natural bug deterrent).
Helps prevent infections in minor cuts, combats fungal issues, and supports wound healing.
Coconut Oil (20%)
Contains lauric acid and caprylic acid: powerful natural antimicrobials.
Adds cleansing power and fluffy lather to balance the conditioning oils.
Helps cleanse bacteria and fungi from the skin surface while remaining gentle due to high superfat.
Olive Oil (15%)
Rich in polyphenols and squalene, a natural antioxidant and moisturizer.
Known for its gentle, soothing qualities in sensitive skin products.
Protects skin from oxidative damage, helps calm irritation, and adds silkiness to the soap bar.
Shea Butter (15%)
Contains vitamins A & E, plus natural cinnamic acid (anti-inflammatory).
Speeds healing of chapped, cracked, or inflamed skin.
Calendula + Yarrow + Dandelion
Calendula: Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound-healing. Soothes eczema, rashes, insect bites, and minor burns.
Yarrow: Astringent and antiseptic, helps with cuts, scrapes, and skin infections.
Dandelion: contains polyphenols and flavonoids that reduce redness, swelling, and irritation. The high antioxidant content helps neutralize free radicals on the skin, protecting it from environmental stressors (sun, pollution). Helps pull impurities from the surface, making it useful for acne-prone or congested skin.
Pine Tar (15%)
Traditional remedy for eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis.
Antimicrobial and anti-itch.
Natural insect deterrent due to its smoky scent.
Essential Oils:
Vetiver
Deeply earthy and grounding.
Antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and cooling.
Medicinal effect: Calms irritated skin, promotes wound healing, and relaxes the mind (grounding aromatherapy).
Frankincense
Resinous and slightly sweet.
Antiseptic and promotes cellular regeneration.
Medicinal effect: Speeds skin healing and supports tissue repair for scars or abrasions.
Patchouli
Earthy, musky, and acts as a fixative (locks scents in).
Antifungal and antibacterial.
Medicinal effect: Supports healing of cracked, dry skin and minor fungal infections (athlete’s foot).
Juniper Berry
Piney, fresh scent.
Antimicrobial and detoxifying.
Medicinal effect: Clears skin and helps prevent bacterial growth.
Lemongrass
Citrusy and uplifting.
Potent insect repellent and antimicrobial.
Medicinal effect: Keeps mosquitoes and other insects at bay while adding a bright freshness to balance the smoky scent.
Overall Benefits
Heals and soothes irritated, dry, or flaky skin
Acts as a natural insect repellent (mosquito deterrent)
Antifungal and antibacterial (supports healing of minor cuts, scrapes, and fungal issues)
Soft forest scent with smoky and earthy undertones
Leaves a conditioning, protective layer due to high superfat + tallow
Skin Feel After Use
Lather: Creamy, low bubbles (normal for pine tar).
Skin: Feels conditioned and nourished (not stripped).
Scent: Lingering woodsy smoke + subtle citrus freshness.
