There are a lot of different approaches to barbering, and I think a lot of it comes down to personality. Some barbers pride themselves on the conversations, the relationships, and what they call “customer service.”

I don’t think there’s necessarily a right or wrong way. You have to do what works for you—and, more importantly, what you can maintain consistently.

Me? I’m not interested in being your friend. 😂
I want to be your reliable solution.

Some people call that customer service. I call it professionalism—the consistent manner in which you provide value to your clients in a seamless, predictable way.

I was talking to a client about how much he appreciates the punctuality, reliability, and consistency of my business. And that’s exactly what I’m selling.

Think about your bartender. You might think your bartender is cool, but what you really want is for your drink to taste the same every damn time. 😂

That’s what I’m clear about.

I’m not just selling haircuts. I’m selling consistency and reliability.

The skin-tight fade is fundamental and timeless. It’s one of those haircuts that never goes out of style.

I honestly believe a skin-tight fade is a barber’s aptitude test. It reveals your understanding of weight, graduation, symmetry, and blending. You can’t hide behind enhancements or distractions—either your fundamentals are there, or they’re not.

Even after cutting thousands of skin-tight fades throughout my career, I still enjoy doing them. They’re a reminder that mastery isn’t about moving on from the basics—it’s about returning to them with greater precision every single time.

I always tease this particular client. 😂 We’re the same zodiac sign, so she usually lets me get away with it.

In this installment, she’s trying to avoid her daughter because she knows she’s been experimenting on her own hair again. 🤦🏽‍♂️😂 Then she comes to me expecting the magic wand to fix it.

Lucky for her, she understands there are limits to my wizardry. 😂 We got her headed back in the right direction.

Moral of the story: If you’re willing to trust your barber… stop auditioning for DIY Hair Disasters. 😅

Some clients just don’t learn. 🤦🏽‍♂️😂

One of my favorite clients doesn’t always get in for her appointments as often as she’d like… and that’s not the problem.

The problem starts when she decides to become her own stylist.

More chemicals.
More experimenting.
More damage.

Then the hair starts thinning or breaking off… and she comes back looking at me like I’m supposed to perform a miracle. 😂

I told her, “They’ve actually got a name for doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result.”

She laughed and said, “You’re right… I’m leaving it alone from now on.”

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your hair… is stop trying to save money by fixing it yourself.
