This sweet client is brand new to my studio. She came in bored with her perfectly blended, standard blonde highlights, and we decided to take her a little warmer (you can't see it here, but she has the most gorgeous hazel eyes which I really wanted her haircolor to complement).

You might be wondering what's involved with creating a completely different look like that, so I've included the steps I took below:

To break up the blended highlights, I foiled in a few rich, ribbony auburn lowlights. For her lighter pieces, I filled in the white blonde with true gold and then layered strawberry blonde on top of that. At her rootline, I added in some natural chocolate, which will compliment her regrowth and keep her from having to see me every four weeks.

Last week, I had a wonderful new client come in who was ready for a major transformation—she wanted to go from long, flowing locks to a heavily layered, wearable s**g. I could see the excitement in her eyes, but also a hint of nervousness about such a big change. I knew this was a big step for her, so I took my time to ensure every detail was just right, even if it meant her appointment ran a bit longer than usual. As we chatted, I learned about her life, dreams, and what brought her to seek this change. By the time we finished, not only did she leave with an incredible new hairstyle that perfectly suited her personality, but we forged a connection that I truly cherish. As a business owner, I do a tremendous amount of research into what clients are saying online and in-person about hair appointments.

Last year, I condensed my menu down to the bare essentials. My goal was to make the booking process as straightforward as possible so that you could feel calm and confident from beginning to end.

This year, my research is showing that the steps I took to streamline the booking experience were part of a larger movement by hairstylists and beauty professionals that created feelings of exclusion rather than encouragement. Menus dominated by services beyond your current needs at price points beyond your current budget left many of you bereft of the positive, professional experience I had been hoping to provide.

I can admit when we, as an industry, start to get it wrong, and this is one of those times. My goal is and has always been to be the stylist people can find and build a long-term haircare relationship with, and that starts with building trust in small doses. As a service industry professional, it is also just simply my job to provide the kind of service you need.

I've added a standard haircut appointment back to my online service booking menu. It should be extremely straightforward for you to book that experience now, and I look forward to getting to know you!

Something else you may notice is that I have lowered some of my prices where I was able to do so. The truth is that my pricing was based on some pretty sophisticated math (for which I consulted a professional), so there's just not a ton of wiggle room considering inflation and other economic factors, but I keep seeing that people feel priced out of their haircare experiences. I am trying my best to respond to that, and I'm hoping my efforts will be a signal that I do see you. I do care.
