Before treatment, she was shaving to manage it. A year of consistent electrolysis later, we’ve permanently removed a significant portion of what she used to shave over and over!

We’ve had this cool cloudy front sitting over Reno for the past week, and it’s the kind of beautiful weather where sunscreen is the last thing on anyone’s mind.

Clouds cut the warmth much more than they cut the UV, and UVA in particular gets through no matter what the sky looks like. You just don’t feel it, so it’s easy to forget to apply sunscreen on these days!

This matters post-electrolysis even more because your skin is healing for about a month after every treatment. The visible redness settles within a day or two, which makes it easy to assume the skin’s healing is done, but the repair underneath is still going. We don’t want the damaging sun’s rays on healing skin.

I sell a broad spectrum mineral SPF 50 in the salon, which provides a physical barrier against UV, unlike chemical sunscreens that absorb UV radiation and convert it into heat. It’s a sun serum without fragrance and it doesn’t leave much of a white cast. Always looking out for my clients!

This 21 year old client came to me from an electrologist in her previous home city who had told her that I (as her new electrologist) should only use a kind of electrolysis on her called blend, which is a blend of Galvanic (kills hair growth cells with a natural chemical reaction) and Thermolysis (kills cells with heat). Blend requires seconds of holding the probe inside each follicle, much longer than Thermolysis (only requires tenths of a second per follicle), and for a few of her own reasons, this client could not make it in for as long or as frequent of sessions as I’d professionally recommend. For that reason, we weren’t able to make much progress clearing hairs each visit. Plus, her skin was very dry, so it was very difficult to create that chemical reaction inside of her follicles. When blend wasn’t making much of a difference after several appointments, she trusted me to switch approaches to Thermolysis — and the progress since then has been significant.

There’s no single “best” electrolysis method. Skilled electrologists adjust to what’s actually happening at the follicle. If a method isn’t working, I have a conversation with you about adapting to find what works for your hair, not to keep pushing it.

So far, we have done about 12.5 hours of treatment on three different areas: her chin, neck, and cheeks over one year. Her after photo shows 9 weeks of growth since our last appointment, with no temporary hair removal method that pulls out the hair by the roots in between appts! I would not recommend waiting 9 weeks between appointments with this much hair left, but that is what she can make work. Even though I would love to have her in more frequently and for longer appointments, in order to be able to get rid of every single hair at every single appointment, I’m still so happy with the progress that we’ve gotten her!
