Sorry, this was my update from last Tues…

Day 2 update in Tijuana

Things are going well here in Tijuana. Yesterday when I arrived I immediately had blood work drawn and handed over my imaging I had brought from Wisconsin. I then met with three different doctors and went over a treatment plan. Crazy how organized and well run this place is. The Communication between the drivers, secretaries, doctors, nurses, nutritionist and everyone is amazing. No sitting around waiting for days and then maybe call you back crap like our hospitals. I then began my therapies and infusions. I will be here Monday through Saturday every day from 8:00 until about 3:00 in the afternoon. They really emphasize healthy eating. Trying to keep your body at alkaline as possible to prevent cancer growth. Absolutely no sugar, no red meat, no dairy and no Busch Light. We are served two meals a day, juice, and all the alkaline water we want. The meals have been very good but sure would like some goddamn sugar, cheese and a beer.
We have met some really nice other patients and caregivers. We have explored our neighborhood a little bit. Walked up to the grocery store and a couple other shops. Our apartment is nice and it is a pretty safe area of town.

A long update on my Cancer….

As most of you know I have metastatic breast cancer. Actually this month it has been 10 years since I was diagnosed! Not bad for someone given a pretty p**s poor prognosis! I have had surgeries, been on numerous hormone therapies, chemo’s radiation and other treatments. All came with a huge list of s**tty side effects that I usually just grin and bear it. I did my best and just kept looking forward, hoping something would work. All have worked for a bit but eventually failed and onto the next one I went. It has remained in my bones this entire time with several spots on my hips, pelvis and spine.
Things changed in July. 3 days before the fair I called my Dr. and told her I wanted to move my scan up. My back was killing me and I just had a feeling it was progressing. I was right. Several new bone spots and something new. A small lesion on my right lung. Once again the current treatment I was on was not working and it was time to try something else. We decided to try and get a biopsy of the small lung lesion to see if it was the same type of cancer we had been targeting or if over the years it changed/mutated. I had the lung biopsy on a Monday worked the following day without anyone knowing a thing. The following week I loaded up my horses, dog and Walker and headed west with friends for 8 days. It was a trip we had been planning for a year and this sure as s**t wasn’t going to make me miss it. Lol! Time to have fun and clear my head. It was amazing to share this with Walker. I told my Dr’s I’d deal with my health s**t show when I got back.
When I got back, the results were still not in. It took 4 weeks for them to come back showing it had remained the same type of metastatic breast cancer. Since I have blown through so many drugs over the year we are beginning to run a little low on options. My Dr did a little research and found a new drug, recently approved and meant for HER2+ cancer patients who’s cancer has progressed on Herceptin. We were hopeful. I was giving this along with Navelbine, a chemo drug I had done well with in the past. I have been on this regimen for a couple month now with pretty minimal side effects. Lately I have had a cough, chest pain and short on breath. We did a CT scan a couple weeks ago to check and make sure I was not having lung reaction from the new meds or had developed pneumonia from a recent cold I had. Both, things I have had before. Things looked ok but did note the tumor on my right lung was a tiny bit bigger. She did not think this would be causing my cough and pain. She told me not to panic, I was off treatment most the summer and we had just started this new drug. We haven’t given it long to seen if it was keeping things stable. The chest pain and cough have now worsened in the last 3 weeks and am super tired. Last week, I went down for my weekly treatment and expressed this to my PA. They decided they wanted another CT. This time things have grown and there is more cancerous activity at the top of my right lung causing my coughing, shortness and breath. Not good!
I never been one to sit back and not pay attention, I research, I question Dr’s and I get second opinions. It’s time to take charge out myself 1st and make some decisions. After all theses years getting injected with about every poison you can imagine my body has held up pretty well but I can tell it is getting worn out. I have always wondered about taking another approach with alternative therapies but just kept on the modern medicine road due to money, closing my shop and it being so far away. Well, this current approach is killing me…and not working. The past few months I’ve been heavily researching and looking into a holistic clinic in Tijuana Mexico. They do a lot of things that we do not do here in the US. No FDA bulls**t.
I won’t know if we don’t try. We have talked and think this might be our last shot. It makes me cry thinking about leaving Walker and Tyson behind and going fu***ng broke but I’d like to try about anything. I’m waiting to have a couple 2nd opinions to be set up here and hoping to find a US hospital that will work along with alternative treatments before making any final decisions.
I hate to have to write this but I need to. Unfortunately I am closing my salon for now. Hopefully, just for a while but that’s totally up in the air at this point. I’ll probably try and finish out this week depending on appointments and how I feel. If you are a client, I will try and reach out to most of my existing appointments, but If I don’t get a hold of you please consider all future appointments canceled.
This week is going to be crazy with lots of decisions and appointments to make.

My sister has ALWAYS had long blonde hair. She messaged me and needed a cut/color appointment, I figured it was for her usual blonde highlight. She shocked me and said it was time for a change and she wanted to go dark and red! I was hesitant at first and tried to talk her out of it, but we went though with it. It turned out great! Here’s the inspiration, and before and after pictures.

Hey guys! Here’s a couple pictures of what I’ve been up to the last month and a half. Walker and I have been very busy with the animals, greenhouse and just getting things done around the farm.

I just basically wanted to touch base with you on what “reopening” is going to look like. So, Governor Evers has set the date of May 26th for non-essential businesses to open. This date could potentially be made earlier or later pending circumstances, for now I’m going with this date. This will allow me to be properly prepared on the new guidelines that are set for my industry.

I look forward to seeing everyone again! My number one concern is keeping yourself and myself SAFE. Here are a few of the main safety and sanitation measures I will be implementing going forward...

Social distancing in salon- I will only be servicing on person at a time. Please do not bring any unscheduled guests with you to your appointment. Obviously, if you have children, I will bend this rule a little.

Sanitation- I have always prided myself on providing a clean work space and salon but to keep a low risk of community spread I will be spending extra time to make sure all my tools and work space is wiped down well with a disinfectant. Each person will also receive a freshly laundered cutting/color cape along with the usual disposable neck strip.

Masks- I will be wearing one and I will require my clients to wear one as well. This is not only for my protection but yours as well. As most of you know, I have a serious underlying health issue and this virus has made me question if I should be going back to work at all. I love my job and I feel as though asking you to wear a dumb looking mask for 15min. is a minor sacrifice to keep us both safe. We will both look stupid together. 😉 If you have your own, please bring it. If not, I plan to have a box and they will be $1.

*If you are ill or have been ill, or exposed to someone with Covid 19. DO NOT COME! Please be responsible and safe and reschedule your appointment for 14 days later*

As I said before, I can’t wait to see you all again and catch up! I have spent the last 2 months being locked up at home with a 9 year old! I love him to death but I need adult conversations and a break from fighting with him about his school work. What a crazy time we are living in! If your looking to get yourself scheduled please call soon! 608 386 7210

Due to the growing concern over the COVID 19 pandemic I have made the decision to close my shop after this week until further notice. This was not a easy decision but with the numbers increasing rapidly daily and having compromised immune system it is for my own safety. Sorry for the inconvenience, Dina
