My first wedding as a hair and makeup artist was technically “free.”

And it was almost 10 years ago 🤍

I hadn’t even started formal makeup training yet, but my sister trusted me with something bigger than hair and makeup — she trusted me with how she was going to feel walking down the aisle.

While we were getting ready, she said something I’ve heard from brides over and over again ever since:

“I still want to look like me.”
“I don’t normally wear a lot of makeup, but I want to feel like a bride.”
“I want to look good in pictures and in person.”

That first wedding shaped my entire approach to bridal hair and makeup.

It taught me how to listen.

It pushed me toward natural glam makeup, timeless bridal beauty, and classic wedding hair styling that enhances instead of overwhelms.

Even the way I approached makeup school changed after that day. I wanted to learn how to create clean, radiant looks that feel comfortable, polished, and completely authentic to the person wearing them.

And yes… my sister technically paid me by trading services and building my website 😅 — but what she really gave me was the foundation for a career I genuinely love.

Almost a decade later, I’m still grateful for that first wedding — because it’s the reason I fell in love with being a wedding hair and makeup artist.

Knowing makeup and hair can last through any weather (today's cold or summer's heat) is key when hiring a makeup artist. Especially when we want the makeup to be shear enough to let freckles show through but coverage enough to feel glamorous!
