The Black Derby Barber Co.

This post is long overdue however I must address the situation now. After 5 absolutely amazing and tough last couple of years, The Black Derby Barber Co. is closed. Whatever rumor anyone hears I can tell you that 99% of it is not true. We were never shut down by any entity and it was not because of any financial instability. The closure was solely my, the owner’s, decision. Unfortunately with every business there are ups and downs and unhappy people that like to tear down a business that helped make them who they are today. We all know we cannot please everyone and sometimes difficult and unpopular decisions have to be made. With that being said and moved aside, I can say that I am so proud to have been apart of the barbering community and bringing something completely new to Spartanburg. We were the first upscale barber shop of its kind in this community and made many stylists into Barbers that flood Spartanburg and Greenville today. It was an honor to say the least. Our community and our clients have absolutely loved on us unconditionally and we have made countless friendships and new family members along the way. Those relationships will always be cherished and never forgotten. We’ve watched children grow, many beautiful love story’s bloom to become marriages, watched those couples become parents and we have even mourned deaths of clients. This industry is not just about hair but about life and its difficult times we find ourselves in. We become friends and counselors and that right there is why barbers do what they do and if not they will be weeded out one by one. Now, I am more than happy to hand over the keys to a wonderful Barber and business woman, Ashley Rushing, who is the owner of Bareknuckle Barbershop. Bareknuckle will be located in our E Main St location and I promise you, they will serve you just as good if not better than the Black Derby Barber Co. There’s absolutely no other woman I would trust to serve the downtown community than her and her rockstar team. Lastly I would also like everyone to know that the hat is not completely hung and to look for The Black Derby Barber Co. again in the near future. Thank you again for for your incredible support for these past 5 years.
