Lash Technician or Lash Artist

These terms are used interchangeably all the time in the lashing community. But I believe there is a distinction that needs to be made here.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because you see, for the longest time I identified my job title as a lash tech, or technician. I did things technically right. My work was safe, sanitary and timely but that was all.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I didn’t know how to work with my client to give them the set they wanted. I didn’t know how to pick the best style for the clients eye shape. I didn’t have a deep understanding of lash curls and the power of mixing them together to get different looks. My repertoire was sub par.

But now I choose to identify my job title as a lash artist. I now strive to be more than technically ok but creative and a problem solver. I study different trends in the lash industry and practice performing them.

Lash artist and lash technician are not the same thing. And my question to you is this, which do you want?

Lashes can do amazing things for your eyes! There are so many clients I have had that have told me how much more awake they feel having lash extensions!

This is because when they are styled correctly they can bring so much lift to your eyes. They can make your eye appear larger, elongated or more open, all depending on what your look is. And, they are just fun!

This is my lash cart! On it are all the disposables, products and tools I need to preform a lash extension service. Are you surprised how much is here? This isn’t even counting my actual lashes! But let’s talk about what is.

The Disposables/ Single Use Items
1. Under eye pads and tape- used to separate the lower lash line from the upper, protect your skin and to assist in isolating the lashes
2. Micro-swaps and lipstick applicators- distribute my liquid products and glue remover
3. Mascara wands- used to brush through the lashes to help clean, straighten extension and check for proper application

The Products
1. Glue- everything hinges on wether or not this product is working properly. It’s humidity sensitive and can have different dry times. Ever have glue sensitivity? Well there are many types with different levels of cynoacrylite (one of the main bonding ingredients)
2. Cleanser- an oil free cleanser starts everyone of my services to ensure no makeup residue or oil messes with the longevity or your extensions
3. Primer- the deep clean, ensures a magnetic bond for my glue
4. Glue remover- if you want your extensions off it is best to come back and have them professional removed to ensure no damage is done by pulling at the extensions

Tools
1. Tweezers- my most important tool for grabbing each individual extension and isolating each individual lash
2. Magnifying glasses - lashes are small and trust me you want me to see all the details
3. Glue shaker- ensures all ingredients of the glue are properly mixed together
4. Fan - drying the lashes
5. Inspection mirror - let’s me see the lashes from your angel and check for completion
