3B Hair Type: Springy Ringlets
These curls are either spiral ringlets with a bit of a bounce or tight corkscrews. This hair type can be very frizzy and may require styling gels or hair creams.

3A Hair Type: Large, Loose Curls
The 3A hair texture consists of your typical Shirley Temple curls that are loose. Because of its lack of tightness, it gives the hair some shininess. This type of natural hair is convenient since it doesn’t require much styling or product to look great. At the same time, the lack of proper care makes the curl dull and damaged.

Get a dry haircut.

By cutting the hair dry, your stylist will be able to see exactly where each curl falls. It takes out all of the guesswork.

Mousse

A mousse should define and add volume too – particularly when applied at the roots. Crucially it shouldn’t be sticky. It should be light so that you can’t feel it once your hair has dried.

The Right Conditioner
‘Right’ here means silicone-free. Having happily used silicones for years, it is a big step to go silicone free for your new curly hair routine.

Most commercial conditioners will contain silicones so it really is worth doing a little bit of research here.

They don’t have to be expensive, just silicone free. Silicones coat the hair and can build up, causing greasiness and limp hair, weighing curls down.

Space Buns
Once you find the perfect placement for your buns, go ahead and twist your hair to form a bun. Depending on your hair thickness and form of curls, you’ll either need bobby pins or hair ties – sometimes both to secure it!
