This is a long one but it was a long time to get here in more ways than one. I’ve waited to post our daughter’s first haircut because I’ve been still processing the emotion and how special this was for me. An architecture degree that I’ve never put to professional use. Jobs I’ve outgrown. Bad jobs. Decent jobs. Feeling like I would be endlessly stuck. Being afraid to go to hair school due to the fear of being negatively questioned why or being made fun of. It started with a cut on my little brother in the basement. Then a friend asked me to give him a cut and was supportive of the idea of hair school. Then more family and friends were supportive. That made a career 180 much easier to swallow. Hair school brought experiences and friends that I had no clue were going to come. And then came our daughter. During hair school my wife and I had her and when she was less than a month old it hit me that I would be the first person to officially do her hair. Needless to say that moment is still an emotional one for me. Cut to 3 years later. It was time for that first cut. I had two main concerns… 1. I hope I don’t mess it up 2. I hope she doesn’t throw a fit. We passed both tests. But even though the first haircut was emotional and special, today it got an add-on….
I chose to post this now because as a stylist one of our top priorities is rebooking a guest. Today our daughter told my wife that she “wants Dad to give her another haircut because it was starting to get messy”. My 3 year old rebooked with me. The most famous person to ever walk the earth could ask me to be their personal stylist and it wouldn’t get within a million universes of what my daughter rebooking with me does. I’m very thankful for everyone that has been a part of getting to this point.
