Colleen A. Smith (Moore)
January 15, 1945 – April 13, 2026
Colleen Smith (Moore), 81, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 13, 2026. Born on January 15, 1945, she was the cherished daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Hodges) Moore. Raised in Springfield, Colleen was a graduate of Trade High School and spent most of her adult life in East Longmeadow, where she raised her family, built lifelong friendships, and truly made herself at home - often with a thoughtfully chosen gift in her hands, beautifully manicured pink nails, and a smile (or friendly opinion) ready to share.
Colleen lived a life filled with creativity, generosity, and deep devotion to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 56 years, George Smith, whose unwavering dedication, quiet strength, and steadfast presence defined the beautiful life they shared. She was a loving mother to her daughter, Christine Sweeny and her husband Russell of East Longmeadow, and to her son, Brian Smith, alongside Mindy Westermann of Whately. Her family was her greatest pride, and she made sure everyone knew it.
In her later years, nothing brought Colleen more joy than watching her two grandchildren grow and thrive. She leaves the true lights of her life, her grandchildren: Hunter Sweeny of South Boston and Olivia “Liv” Sweeny of East Longmeadow. Being Nana was her favorite title - one she wore proudly. Known affectionately as “Crazy Nana,” she delighted in showering them with love, encouragement, laughter, and, quite possibly, more gifts than they could ever count.
Colleen loved being with people. She cherished sharing drinks, food, and laughter during her neighborhood’s beloved “Pink Pig” nights, and she never missed her weekly teatime and Cousins’ Club gatherings at her home - where everyone always felt welcome and well fed. Her house reflected her joyful spirit, beautifully decorated for every holiday, but especially Christmas, which she truly made magical.
She was predeceased by her sister, Kathy Durand, and her husband Paul, and by her sister-in-law, Linda Moore. She is lovingly survived by her brothers, Robert Moore, and Joseph Moore and his wife Vicki - who was far more than a sister-in-law and truly her second sister. Colleen is also remembered with love by many cherished nieces and nephews, cousins, dear friends, and treasured neighbors who knew they could always count on her - whether they needed a helping hand, a home-cooked meal, a birthday cake, or a good laugh.
A retired hairdresser, Colleen spent many years building lasting relationships with her clients and colleagues. Her final salon home was Denise and Friends, where her warmth, talent, and friendship were deeply cherished. Even in retirement, her hands were never still. She expressed her creativity through painting, knitting, sewing, cooking, and a wide array of arts and crafts. She was especially known for her lovingly made daisy and yo yo blankets, each one a reflection of her generous heart and her constant desire to uplift others.
She was a devout communicant of St. Michael’s Parish in East Longmeadow and lived her faith through kindness, service, and genuine care for others.
Above all, Colleen will be remembered as a devoted mother, a fiercely proud Nana, and a kind, creative soul who brought warmth, color, and joy wherever she went. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the traditions she created, the beauty she brought into the world, and the countless lives she brightened with her humor, generosity, and love.
