CranioSacral therapy is sometimes mistaken for energy work because it’s so gentle. While it can involve energy work, it’s technically a manual therapy.
Practitioners are “listening” to the ebb and flow of the cerebrospinal fluid’s rhythm with our hands and then treating accordingly.
It can be challenging to feel the rhythm when you are first learning but once you pick up on it you can’t NOT feel it in each person’s body. You feel where something is stuck like concrete that should have mobility. You feel where there is stagnation or chaos or emptiness where there should be flow.
It’s pretty freaking cool and as more people learn and advance in this knowledge there will be an abundance of healing. 💛
🧠💓 Could One Gentle Technique Reset Autonomic Imbalance?
CranioSacral Therapy might hold the key.
A published case study in the Cureus Journal of Medical Science explores how a 39-year-old man suffering from Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)—a form of dysautonomia that spiked after COVID—found lasting relief not from medication, but from osteopathic manual therapy, specifically the CV4 technique (Compression of the Fourth Ventricle).
🌿 What’s compelling?
✅ Symptoms improved after the first CV4 session
✅ Heart rate response normalized over a series of sessions
✅ Symptom-free for over 6 months
This case proposes CranioSacral Therapy as a viable standalone modality for managing neuropathic POTS—an increasingly common challenge in post-COVID patients.
✨ For manual therapists, it’s a powerful reminder: the body has the potential to reset, given the right support.

How Do Emotions Affect Our Tissues?
In her latest article, Vivien Henderson, LMT, CST-D, explores the powerful mind-body connection through SomatoEmotional Release (SER) in CranioSacral Therapy (CST).
Traumatic experiences and emotions such as fear, anger, or shock can become stored in the body's tissues, contributing to pain and dysfunction. Through gentle CST techniques, these emotional patterns can be identified and released, supporting deep healing and balance.
Read about:
• How emotional trauma can become embedded in the body
• The role of CST in releasing "energy cysts"
• Real-life cases demonstrating profound physical and emotional healing

So thankful to have learned about CranioSacral therapy a few years back. It’s such profound bodywork and I am honored to be able to share it with my clients. 🙏🏼🩷
The other day I was using some of the new mouth work techniques I learned with one of my regular CST clients. They have ehlors danlos syndrome, which is a connective tissue disorder, and deal with chronic pain due to joint instability.
The touch we use is that of the weight of a nickel and this allows the body to respond from an unguarded place. They said it felt like the tissue pulled so hard to one side in their head that driving was difficult. Right after the tension in their left cheekbone dissipated and they were opening and closing their mouth to test for pain they said “wow, that feels so different. It feels so good. I can’t believe it. Oh my god I could cry.” Then they started to cry.
Tears of relief pooled in their eyes. Tears that held years of dental trauma from invasive procedures and painful splints. Tears of joy, frustration and sadness all mixed in ran from the corners of their eyes. I lightly rested my hand on their arm and smiled in response knowing this was a good thing. 💛
🧠 Exciting research in PNAS reveals that cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) may travel along peripheral nerves to organs throughout the body, creating a direct brain-body communication pathway.
These findings align with the principles of CranioSacral Therapy and Neural Manipulation, which focus on supporting CSF flow and nerve function to promote health and balance throughout the body.

Study Highlights the Real-World Impact of CranioSacral Therapy (CST)
A large prospective cohort study explored how CranioSacral Therapy is being used in real-world primary health care — and the findings are compelling.
✨ Safe and effective across all age groups — from infants to adults
✨ Significant improvements in pain, function, sleep, and emotional wellbeing
✨ No serious adverse events reported
This research reflects what many therapists witness daily in clinical practice: CST supports the body’s natural capacity for regulation, healing, and resilience.
If you are committed to integrative, patient-centered care, this study reinforces the meaningful work you do every day.
