Lacey “G Souldier” Turner Lacey Turner is a multi-talented artist, filmmaker, author, journalist, and activist
whose work continues to inspire audiences worldwide. Born and raised in St. Louis, he began
his creative journey through poetry and music, eventually rising as a battle rapper known for
sharp lyricism and commanding stage presence. His song Rescue You earned a nomination for
Best Original Song at The Hollywood Music In Media Awards, further solidifying his place in
music.
Beyond music, Lacey has written and directed over 16 impactful films, earning awards at
multiple festivals and establishing himself as a visionary storyteller through his company, 4 Feet
Off The Ground Productions. As an author, he penned ABHITA—a powerful book on
bullying—and co-authored the #1 bestseller A Black Man’s Point of View: Mind, Body, and Soul
from the Voices of Black Men. His journalism has appeared in The Narrative Matters and The
St. Louis Argus, showcasing his versatility, from covering cultural stories to reporting NASCAR.
Lacey also connects with audiences through podcasting, hosting Pull Up The Curtain With G
Souldier, where he interviews celebrities and UnCensor The Conversation. A humanitarian at
heart, he serves on the advisory board of the JB Dondolo Organization. His latest album, The
Weight Of My Name, is now streaming worldwide. He will be acting in the film Exposed 8/22/26.

Joel P.E. King is an East St. Louis native, accomplished playwright, actor, director, producer, educator and founder/artistic director of JPEK CreativeWorks Theatre. For more than two decades, King has used theatre and storytelling to explore powerful themes surrounding identity, relationships, healing, culture and community.
About Exposed the Play:
EXPOSED, written, directed and produced by Joel P.E. King, is a powerful and emotionally charged stage production that explores mental wellness, masculinity, family, relationships, trauma and healing. The story centers on Dae, a man forced to confront the pressures, pain and truths he has carried in silence. Through family, love, memories and difficult revelations, EXPOSED challenges audiences to look beyond the masks people wear and consider what it truly takes to face yourself, ask for help and begin to heal.

12 years ago today, August 9, 2014, our community changed forever.

Michael Brown Jr. was 18 years old.

What happened on the streets of Ferguson didn’t just impact Ferguson. It impacted St. Louis. It impacted this country. And ultimately, it impacted the world.

From our streets came a cry that would be heard everywhere:

✊🏾 HANDS UP. DON’T SHOOT.

Ferguson became more than a place on the map. It became part of a national conversation about policing, justice, accountability, race, and what it means for Black and Brown people to feel safe in their own communities.

For those of us from St. Louis, this wasn’t just something we watched on the news.

This was home. These were our streets. This was our community.

12 years later, we honor the life of Michael Brown Jr. We remember his family. We remember Ferguson. We remember the people who marched, organized, spoke up, demanded change, and refused to be silent.

And while progress has been made, we know the work isn’t finished.

So today, The Beat remembers. St. Louis remembers. Ferguson remembers.

May we continue using our voices. May we continue standing for our communities. And may we never stop pushing toward a world where justice, dignity, safety, and equality belong to EVERYONE.
