Not all scars can be camouflaged 🤷🏼‍♀️

One of the most common questions I get is: ”Can you tattoo over my scar and make it disappear?”

The answer depends on the type of scar.

✅ Hypertrophic scars can often be improved and eventually camouflaged.

These scars are raised, firm, and sometimes pink or red, but they stay within the boundaries of the original injury. Before we ever add pigment, my goal is to improve the texture of the scar first.

This is where Inkless Scar Revision comes in.

Over a series of treatments, we create controlled micro-injuries that stimulate collagen remodeling and help soften, flatten, and improve the appearance of the scar. Once the scar is no longer raised and has matured, we may be able to perform scar camouflage tattooing to blend the color with the surrounding skin.

🚫 Keloid scars are different.

Unlike hypertrophic scars, keloids continue growing beyond the original wound and represent an overactive healing response. Any additional trauma to the area — including tattooing, microneedling, or scar revision treatments — can potentially trigger even more keloid growth.

Because of that, I do not perform scar camouflage or inkless scar revision on keloid scars.

The goal is always to improve a scar, not make it worse.

A lot of people think that if a scar is over a year old, there’s nothing that can be done about it.

This beautiful client has trusted me with her brows, lips, and eyelash enhancement in the past, and recently we started working on her tummy tuck and thigh lift scars.

Her scars were fully healed (over a year old), but they were still very purple, angry-looking, and very noticeable. Before we started, I explained that scar camouflage is a process, not a one-time fix. I estimated we would likely need at least 5 sessions, spaced about 2 months apart, to see significant improvement.

Today she came back for her second session, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised.

After just ONE treatment, the scars had already changed from purple to a softer brown tone and looked dramatically calmer and less inflamed. They weren’t screaming for attention anymore.

We completed another session today, and I can’t wait to see how they heal over the next couple of months.

If you have fair skin and a scar that is still pink, purple, or red 1–2 years after surgery, scar camouflage may be an option for you too.
