Well this feels awkward...

but I feel like this photo was taken about 10 years ago even though it was only last month!

Time feels like it’s on a loop not being in the salon, but if it’s okay with you, I’d love to still share some work that I’m really proud of! I love this photo because Julia wanted to go lighter, and we agreed that a Lived in Color look would be best for her since she has naturally darker hair.

Does time feel like it’s been in a loop for you too? ... what day is it again?

Do you struggle with flat iron curls?

If you said yes, don’t worry! You’re not alone. As a hairstylist I hear “ if only I could curl my hair with the flat iron” A LOT!

No shame, it’s a tricky skill to master!

I had some extra time this morning and put together this video to hopefully help you on your journey to curling your hair with a flat iron!

Some of my favorite tips are:

✨Heat up your section with the flat iron first. And then curl.

✨Always and I mean ALWAYS use a heat protector. Not only does it help protect the health of your hair, it also helps the flat iron glide through your hair easier.

✨Hold the flat iron down and pull it away from your face. ( my flat iron does not get hot around the outer shell, so I am able to hold it where ever making it easier for me to curl)

✨Pick a few random pieces to curl in the opposite direction ( towards your face) but do not pick the pieces around your face. ( always have those directing back)

✨Flat iron the ends after curling to achieve a more separated beachy look.

✨Use a texturizing product ( I used perk up dry shampoo ) after curling to help create definition.

Summer is getting closer and pools will be opening soon! And I know that we have all heard that swimming in a chlorinated pool can turn your blonde hair green.

But did you know that it’s not the chlorine that turns your hair green? It’s actually the chemical reaction between chlorine and copper. Some pool water contains copper ( especially ones filled with well water, and pools with algaecides containing copper).

When chlorine is added to the water it causes the copper to oxidize. The oxidized copper in the water then binds to the hair strand causing it to have a green cast to it!

What can you do about it? If it’s your pool, take the steps to remove the metals from your pool water, and do no use algaecides containing copper. If you can’t do these things, wet your hair and spray it down with leave in conditioner prior to swimming, and immediately shampoo and condition after swimming.

If you have been swimming and are getting your hair lightened, mentioned to your stylist that you might have build up from swimming and get a crystal gel treatment prior to getting lightened!

What does a salon visit look like for a vivid client? 💚

First, plan to be there for 3-4 hours (sometimes more depending on the amount of hair you have, and your ) We will consult prior to any coloring , and see what’s do-able for the day’s visit. Vivid colors can be tricky, especially if you’re wanting pastel colors done. We will formulate a realistic game plan based on your hair.

You will have a couple of coloring services done. Your hair, our canvas, will be prepped for our vivid colors! This means you will more than likely be lightened in someway to get your hair ready to take on some vivid colors!

After you’re lightened and ready to go, we will apply our colors, process, and rinse you out with SUPER cold water. ( I always give a heads up when it’s time for the cold water rinse, my apologies in advance. 😜)

We will wrap up with a blow dry, style, and lots of pictures. Like...a lot of pictures.📸

Spring forward!!🍃We may have lost an hour of our weekend, but gaining an hour of daylight sure makes up for it!! You guys already know I am excited to have some extended natural light for pictures!! 💚💚💚

Your color will not look the same under different lighting. I always suggest taking a look at your color in natural lighting (outside/sunlight) because that will show realistically what your color actually looks like. Artificial lighting, depending on the type bulb, will cause the hair to reflect different colors. Keep this in mind when checking out your new color.
