Being a hairstylist isn’t always glamour, beautiful hair, and smiling pictures. There’s a part of this career that people rarely see. 🤍

We cut hair through cancer treatments, sometimes helping someone say goodbye to their hair while quietly trying to hold back our own tears. We hold our clients when their loved ones pass away. We listen, comfort, and offer them a safe place to fall apart when they need it most.

And sometimes, our final appointment with a client takes place at the mortuary. We do their hair and makeup one last time, remembering how they liked their hair to fall, their favorite lipstick, and the conversations we shared.

The same hands that helped them get ready for birthdays, weddings, and ordinary days now help prepare them for their family’s goodbye. It is an honor, but it is also heartbreaking.

Our clients become part of our lives. We watch their children grow, celebrate their joys, and sit beside them through the hardest seasons. When they pass away, we grieve them, too.

The emotional toll is real. Sometimes we cry in the car, take a deep breath, and walk back into the salon to care for the next person in our chair—carrying the weight of what we’ve just experienced while offering someone else our full presence.

To every family who has trusted me thank you. And to every client I’ve had the privilege of caring for, my chair may one day be empty, but the love, trust, and memories you leave behind never will be. It is an honor to have been part of your life, and I will carry your stories in my heart for as long as I live. Michelle Erhart-Ruiz you are the big sister who cheered me on and stood beside me in every hard moment I faced in life. Today and tomorrow will definitely be hard for so many people. Thank you for being my friend big sister and such an inspiration to so many others. I love you and miss you 😢 🤍
