I’m honestly tired and frustrated. 🥺

My neurologist is actually the physician who referred me to Pain & Spine and ordered my MRIs because I was looking for answers and a second opinion. Now, about three weeks later, after I provided additional findings from my chiropractor and asked whether a nerve study would be recommended since the imaging findings don’t seem to explain the severity of the symptoms I’m experiencing, the response I received was:

“I am not a pain doctor and can’t be of any more help than the pain specialists.”

But I wasn’t asking for pain medication or asking him to manage my pain. I was asking whether further neurological testing could help determine what is actually causing these symptoms.

With all due respect, I am exhausted from constantly being referred from one physician to another without feeling like anyone is actually trying to get to the root of what is going on. One office says they don’t handle the spine. Another handles pain management but not necessarily determining the underlying cause. Then I go back to neurology asking about the nerve component, and I’m essentially sent back to pain management.

I don’t want another generic diagnosis just to put a name on my pain. I want to know WHY I am hurting. If the current imaging doesn’t fully explain what I’m experiencing, then what is the next appropriate test? What else needs to be ruled out? Who actually specializes in figuring that out?

This has been going on since March, and we are almost in September. I should not have to keep traveling to different cities and bouncing between specialists just trying to find someone willing to investigate further.

I’m tired. I’m frustrated. And more than anything, I just want answers and a treatment plan based on what is actually causing the problem—not another referral that sends me in a circle. 🥺
