I have approximately a million things I could/should be doing right now. 🌿
School. Work. Wildflower. Errands. Laundry. The never-ending to-do list.
But it’s a beautiful 80-degree day, the sun is shining, and today I decided that taking an hour to sit by the pool deserved a spot on that list too. ā˜€ļø
Wellness isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes it’s noticing what your body and mind need—and giving yourself permission to actually do it.
The work will still be there. This beautiful afternoon won’t. šŸ’™

Something I learned in school today that will stay with me:

🌿 At its core, health means SELF-CARE. That's it.

Not perfection.
Not a certain number on the scale.
Not how productive you are or how much you can push through.

But taking the time to listen to your body and then doing what you can to meet its needs. Emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually.

What does your body need today?

Maybe it’s movement. Maybe it’s rest. Better nourishment. More sleep. A boundary. Connection. Quiet. A good cry. Time outside. Prayer, meditation, journaling—or simply a moment to breathe.

Health is learning to recognize those needs and then taking intentional action to meet them—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

The more I learn about wellness, the more I realize that our bodies are communicating with us all the time.

Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is get quiet enough to listen. šŸŒæšŸ¤

There’s something about intentionally telling your body, the day is done. šŸŒ™āœØ

My nighttime wind-down has become one of my favorite little wellness rituals, and with a packed week I had slacked, and felt the difference. So, ready...set...reset.

I turn off the bright overhead lights, light a few candles, close the blinds, and let my space get quiet and relaxed. I do some stretching and somatic breathwork. Red plug ins around the house vs blue light.

šŸ““ A little journaling to get the thoughts out of my head.
šŸ‹ cut limes in the bedroom to clear the energy
šŸ›ļø The same little routine that tells my brain: it’s time to rest

Good sleep doesn’t always start when your head hits the pillow. Sometimes it starts an hour before—with the environment you create and the signals you give your nervous system.

Tonight’s intention: With a potentially emotional week ahead, reduce the stimulation, create the restoration, be still with myself.

Last step: phone off. Goodnight my wildflowers 😘

🌿 Work with your body, not against it.

I was not feeling my workout this morning. Cramps, some lower back pain, low motivation…my body was definitely asking me to take it down a notch.

But movement during your period can actually help ease cramps and discomfort for some people. The key? Adjust instead of automatically quitting.

Today that meant showing up, listening to my body, and lightening my load when I needed to. No PRs. No pushing through pain. Just movement.

And you know what? I actually feel better now than I did when I walked into the gym. 🌸

Wellness isn't always about doing more. Sometimes it's knowing when to modify, when to move gently, and when your body truly needs rest.

Your cycle doesn't necessarily mean you have to stop moving—it might just mean moving differently. šŸ’ŖšŸŒæ

Wildflower Wellness is slowly but surely coming together. 🌿🌸

And when I say slowly… I mean slowly. šŸ˜‚

I’m building this little dream while working, going to school, trying to maintain some semblance of a social life, taking care of myself, and occasionally remembering that sleep is important. 🤪

Most of it I’ve been doing on my own, one project, one purchase, and one little detail at a time. Some days it feels like I’m moving at a snail’s pace—but then I stop, look around, and realize how much has actually changed.

Soon, I’m getting some much-appreciated help from my friend Brian to install the vanities šŸ™ŒšŸ¼ and once those are in, I can finally start moving in the rest of the furniture and watching this space actually become Wildflower Wellness.

There’s something pretty fitting about building a place called Wildflower Wellness this way.

Not overnight.
Not perfectly.
But growing anyway. 🌱

I used to be a 6-days-a-week gym girl. šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

Lately? It’s been more like 4.

And for a minute, part of me wanted to look at that as failure.

But it's not. My life is just FULL. And health is multi dimensional. You can't hyperfocus on one and leave no room for spirit, emotions, mental.

I’m building a business. I’m back in school. I’m working. I’m creating a new life in a new city with actual friends and social events. Going through grief while moving forward in life. I’m healing, growing, figuring things out—and somewhere in all of that, I’m STILL making time to take care of my body. I lost 140 pounds 7 years ago and have kept that off, I am proud of that. Happy for me šŸ˜…

Life has seasons. It ebbs and flows. And sometimes discipline isn’t doing more.

Sometimes discipline is adjusting, giving yourself some grace, and continuing to show up anyway.

So, six days became four.

But four is still showing up. Four is still choosing myself. Four is still progress.

I’m learning that consistency doesn’t have to mean doing the same thing at the same intensity forever.

Sometimes consistency simply means you keep coming back. šŸŒæšŸ’ŖšŸ¼

šŸ“ššŸŒæ Back to school… again!

Today I officially start my Health Coaching program, and I’m genuinely excited to add another layer to everything I’ve been learning about health, wellness, and caring for the whole person!

The best part? It’s ONLINE. šŸ™Œ Which means school can happen from my couch, a coffee shop, or preferably somewhere with an ocean view. (Don't mind Moira's inappropriate looking toy in the background, grandma bought it lol)

Do you think I'll get invited to the cool table?? šŸ˜Ž

Another little step toward building the vision I have for Wildflower Wellness — learning, growing, and figuring it out as I go.

I told you that I would feed you little pearls of wisdom from my oncology courses and I feel it's only fair to start with understanding what cancer is at its core.

🧬 So… what actually IS cancer?

Let’s keep this super simple.

Cancer starts in your DNA, your body’s instruction manual. Your DNA is what tells your cells when to grow, when to divide, when to repair themselves—and when it’s time to shut down.

But cancer cells are rebellious and don't always follow the rules. So those instructions get damaged or changed & these changes are called mutations.

Most of the time, our bodies are pretty amazing at catching mistakes. But when certain mutations build up and the normal ā€œstop signsā€ stop working, a cell can begin growing and dividing when it shouldn’t.

That uncontrolled growth is at the heart of cancer.

But here’s where this series gets interesting… 🌱

We can’t prevent every cancer, and cancer is never as simple as ā€œyou did or didn’t live healthy.ā€ Genetics, aging, environment, infections, chance and many other factors can play a role.

BUT—we can learn about the things that ARE within our control.

Over the next few posts, I’m going to share some of the things I learned in my oncology training about how we can care for our bodies and reduce certain cancer risks—from sun protection and movement to nutrition, alcohol, to***co and more.

Not because we can control everything.

But because understanding our bodies gives us more opportunities to care for them. šŸ’›

Educational information only—not medical advice.

My heart is heavy tonight, and I learned a lesson the hard way. I had a special client, friend, mentor (as you all have been to me) pass away. She had to miss our last appointment together due to illness but asked that I call her back, she would like to see me one more time before I leave...and I allowed the loud, chaotic, overwhelming life of moving across country— move faster than my intentions. I thought about it so many times...

So now I sit here with regret, thinking about someone who trusted me with more than skin and nailcare appointments over the years. Clients become part of our lives, our routines, our stories.

This your reminder to tell people you love them. Call them back. MAKE THE TIME. Say the thing. Hug them a little longer. We convince ourselves there will always be another day, another conversation, another chance. But reality reminds there isn’t always.

To my dear friend, and all of you, thank you for letting me be a small part of yours. šŸ’›
