DISCLAIMER TO ALL MY SALON PROFESSIONALS... I have been an advocate against "CHEMICAL TERRORISM" since 2009. This does not mean that I am "ANTI-CHEMICAL" it simply means that I am "PRO-RESPONSIBLE-CHEMICAL-APPLICATION". I stay steadfast in my global mission to "TURN GLAM GREEN WHILST TAKING THE PAIN OUT OF BEAUTY, ONE STRAND AT A TIME".
If you live in any neck of the woods where you're not required to have a license to practice Cosmetological Services, then what I am writing beyond this point, may not make any sense to you whatsoever. However, I would be indeed delighted if you took the time to read it anyway.
I believe that it is important that all practitioners who use HARSH and HARMFUL Chemicals or SHARP, POINTED METAL Tools should be LICENSED. I also do believe that UNTIL their is a structure or curriculum in place that actually teaches "HOW TO BRAID" then anyone who is pursuing a career as a Professional Braider (in the State of Florida or any other state with similar standards), should only be required to become CERTIFIED. More than a 16 Hour Course should be required to obtain such Licensing. How can a 5 Hrs. HIV/AIDS, 5 Hrs. SANITATION& STERILIZATION, 4 Hrs. DISORDER & DISEASES (of the scalp) and 2 Hrs. LAWS and RULES of the STATE of FLORIDA be enough to become a Licensed Braider, when most braiders were born with the innate ability to braid with intricate geometrical designs (without the use of a mirror) that would make every Crop Circler cringe with envy>>>
For instance, in the State of Florida, I can walk into any Gun Shop, Pawn Shop or Sporting Goods Shop and present my Driving License wait 3 days for a Background Check and then if I have no Criminal History, I'll be able to purchase a gun. I'm allowed to have that gun in my home, in my car, and according to the law, be able to carry it in my hand once it is in plain view. Now if I want to carry that same gun in a holster, in my pocket, in the glove compartment or under my car seat, I'll have to apply for a Lic. to Carry a Concealed Weapon. That is going to require that I take a course that teaches me Safety Procedures in handling and using my gun and I also have to get some TARGET PRACTICE... Then I have to DEMONSTRATE that I am CAPABLE before I receive the CERTIFICATE which I have to present to the STATE in order that my Lic. is issued>>>
My question is, what is the "TARGET PRACTICE" these Braiders are receiving and where is that Curriculum? If the Politics of all of this is just Economics, then Just charge them more for their Certification, but until then They should not be required to be LICENSED to BRAID! That's my opinion.
