Happy Mother's Day

Mothers are not all perfect. They have their flaws like everyone else, but we thank God for using them to bring us into the world, to love us and care for us. So, I extend a Happy Mother's Day to all mothers.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time observed in the US to bring about awareness of the mental health crisis our country is facing and to provide education and support to those suffering from mental illness.

People suffering from diabetes are 2 to 3 times more likely to suffer from depression than people without diabetes, and only 25% – 50% of those ever get diagnosed and treated.

When you are depressed you tend to speak negative things about yourself and you feel isolated and undeserving of help. This is why the National Alliance on Mental Health has put out several posts to help you get involved. Colorectal cancer (colon cancer) is a common cancer in men and women in the United States. Early screening can detect colon cancer before it is too late.

Worldwide deaths from diabetes mellitus (DM) and colorectal cancer increased by 90% and 57%, respectively, over the past 20 years, according to the National Library of Medicine (NIH). Early screening can save lives.

March is Colorectal Cancer (Colon Cancer) Awareness Month. If you are forty-five or over, you should get a colon cancer screening.

This is the time of year when most of us start thinking about our goals for the new year. In doing so, we may look back on last year and berate ourselves because things didn’t quite work out the way we’d hoped. Well, never mind, it’s not too late to work on your health goals. For the first time since I migrated to the United States, I’m spending Thanksgiving away from home. I’m in Trinidad where Thanksgiving is not celebrated and the atmosphere is completely different. It feels weird, but I know it’s only temporary and I can still be thankful for this day regardless of where I am.
