🇩🇪 Things I’ve noticed grocery shopping in Germany…
Okay, I knew some things would be different… but I wasn’t expecting THIS. 😂
🥬 Produce, fruit, bread & eggs:
SO much of it is better quality AND cheaper than what I was used to buying in the States.
🥖 The bread alone… 😍 Fresh German bread is on another level.
🧀 HOLY MOZZARELLA.
Why is this giant fresh mozzarella so good?! I could absolutely eat one of these in one sitting. 😂
🧼 Hand soap & deodorant:
And not just the cheap stuff — I’m talking GOOD quality products. I’m finding some of these things are surprisingly inexpensive compared to the U.S.
🏪 Globus + the Apotheke:
Two places I’m quickly learning to love. You can find SO much here, and the Apotheke is basically a whole experience of its own.
Honestly, grocery shopping in Germany has been one of those little everyday things that makes me realize…
I think I’m really going to like it here. 🇩🇪❤️
I really do love them 🫶
Today, I’m sitting on my couch in Germany, eating fresh German eggs with a warm loaf of fresh-baked bread, sipping coffee made from locally roasted beans. Snuggling the sweetest doodle boy possibly.
It’s one of those quiet moments that makes you stop and realize how beautiful life can be. ❤️🇩🇪
I’m not sure life gets much better than this. Grateful for this adventure, the simple joys, and getting to call Germany home for this chapter.
Hiked 3 miles today with over 800 feet of elevation—and every step reminded me why Germany is so breathtaking. 🇩🇪🥾
Mountain trails, medieval castles, ancient ruins, pear trees heavy with fruit, wild raspberries growing along the path, crystal-clear streams, dog-friendly pubs, and beauty around every corner.
Some places don’t need filters—they’re naturally magical. 💚✨
Things that just make sense in Germany 🇩🇪✨ Part 2: McDonald’s Edition 🍟
I knew McDonald’s would be different here… but I wasn’t expecting THIS 😂
A McDonald’s where you can order a latte, donuts, cheesecake, and a strawberry matcha latte?! ☕🍓🍰
And can we talk about the cups?! No straws… just a very interesting lid situation that took some getting used to 🤣
Today’s order:
🍓 Strawberry matcha latte
🍔 Teriyaki chicken burger — basically a giant chicken nugget patty (and honestly… not mad about it 😂)
But the biggest surprise? The fries 🍟
German McDonald’s fries have a much shorter ingredient list compared to what we’re used to seeing in the U.S. Sometimes simple really is better!
We have been so busy. I can’t wait to start eating healthy again and being on a schedule❤️ ❤️

Skincare girlies will sleep with a dog that licks his own 🍑… but swear one ingredient is “toxic.”
It’s me I’m the girlies…. 😂
✨ Things that just make sense in Germany 🇩🇪☀️
• Separate bathrooms and changing rooms, with FREE blow dryers waiting outside. 👏
• A public pool surrounded by gorgeous trees and nature instead of parking lots. 🌳💦
• A snack bar serving sangria, lattes, and mountains of crispy fries. 🍟☕ My latte actually tasted like espresso and fresh foam—not syrup. (I had to add my own sugar… imagine that! 😂)
• An amazing whirlpool and the coolest waterslide that feels so different from anything we’d find back home.
A few things my American kiddos definitely had to get used to…
👙 Swimwear here is… different. Lots of girls go topless, and it’s completely normal and accepted. Just another cultural difference we’re learning as we settle into life in Germany!
Every day here reminds us that different doesn’t mean wrong—it just means a new adventure. 🇩🇪❤️
Also! We lived in England for 2.5 years! There was very little Mexican food and Nothing like the burritos we found here! My kiddos are very happy about that!
✨ Packed up and sold a salon.
📦 Packed an entire house into THREE different shipments… if you know, you know.
🐶 Got the pups ready for an international move (which deserves an award all by itself!).
✈️ Flew to Florida to unload everything that couldn’t go to Europe, hugged family goodbye, drove back to Illinois, then headed to Chicago.
❤️ Put our dogs on a cargo plane and waited nearly 48 hours to finally hold them again.
🌍 Traveled about 18 hours, stayed awake for 30-ish hours, and landed in Europe with no phone, no car, no internet, and nowhere permanent to call home.
🏡 Finally made it into temporary lodging.
It’s been exhausting, emotional, exciting, overwhelming… and so worth it. Military family life isn’t for the weak..
If you’ve been wondering why I’ve been a little quiet, this is why. 😊 Now that we’re here, I’m excited to start sharing this new adventure—from life in Germany to amazing food, beautiful hair, and everything in between.
Here’s to new beginnings. 🇩🇪
🇩🇪 We made it to Germany! ✈️❤️
Of course, one of the first things I had to do was compare some German treats to our American favorites! 🍩☕️
Dunkin’ Donuts: SO different from the ones back in the States! The flavors, texture, and sweetness definitely aren’t the same.
Starbucks: I tried a Lemon Mochi Cake Pop 🍋—and honestly, it was really good! It wasn’t nearly as sweet as American cake pops, which made it feel lighter and more balanced.
I’m excited to keep trying German foods and sharing all the differences (and surprises!) along the way. 😍
Have you tried snacks in both Germany and the U.S.? Which do you prefer? 👇🇩🇪🇺🇸
