It’s my baby sister’s birthday! I was there the day she was born — the very first birth I ever witnessed. She was also my first photography muse back when I was developing film in my high school dark room. I guess you could say my sister set me on my life’s path. 🙃 Happy birthday aunt Celine!

I’ve been keeping a secret! I’m so excited to share that’s photo I captured of one of my beautiful families is featured on blog! Wut?! So fun!

This birth, y’all. This birth taught me so much about so much. Trust your clients intuition, and advocate, advocate, advocate.

25 years together. 19 years married. 💍 We met in French class on the 4th floor of the left tower at Stadium High School (yes, 10 Things I Hate About You 👀 ). He was the new senior with tattoos, and I was instantly obsessed. 😍

At 22 I married him in the Point Defiance rose garden—the one spot I’d dreamed of since I was a kid. 🌹 Our wedding was sweet, scrappy, and DIY on a budget… and while I’d do so many things the same, I still regret our photography. Thousands of unedited CD photos, no story, no album.

Now, as a photographer myself, I get it. Trusting someone to capture your story is everything—and I’ll never take that lightly.

Maybe for our 20th we’ll redo our portraits (gives me a year to fit back in the dress, right? 😂).

Where in the world is Doula Jenn?
Double the photo shoots, double the fun! Three locations are better than one. So grateful for adventurous couples who are always up for my photo shoot antics. Mid-shoot location swap! June in Tacoma is too stunning to settle for just one location.

Any guesses where we played today?

“Even though I get jump scared by placentas in the fridge sometimes, I think your job is pretty bad ass.” – note from my favorite son on Mother’s Day.

He’s not wrong. My job is pretty bad ass. Being a mom to these two is the best, weirdest, most wonderful adventure of my life. And getting to help other people step into motherhood—sometimes roaring, sometimes sobbing, always powerful—is the greatest honor.

So here’s to the moms, the bonus-moms, the birth givers, the milk makers, the midnight rockers, and the snack-fetchers. You’re doing amazing. Happy Mother’s Day
