Coming up on 6 years of creative partnership with — and we’ve built a lot together. Digital assets, physical collateral, the whole ecosystem. But this one? Still my all-time favorite. caught me completely off guard when she pressed this holographic beauty into my hand, and I don’t think I was ready for it. There’s something different about holding a brand you helped bring to life. The screen doesn’t prepare you for that.

At TBC, we were built on the belief that a “queer-friendly space” isn’t always a safe space for everyone. Too often, trans folks still face the highest levels of violence in our community—last year alone, more than 80% of reported anti-LGBTQ+ homicide victims in the U.S. were transgender, the majority Black trans women. We created The Barber Collective to be intentional: a place where every person, including and especially our trans clients, can not only feel comfortable in the chair, but walk out feeling seen, heard, and valued.

TBC FAM!!! I am so excited to introduce you to our newest barber! Meet Bam (she/her). Bam is a master of her craft. From skin fades to beard trims to braids and loc care, she’s ready to make you look good and feel good. Bam will be in the shop on Sunday and Monday starting September 7! Here’s what Bam wants you to know about her:

“Bam was born and raised in Tacoma, and no matter where life has taken her, she always comes back like a boomerang. She’s been cutting, styling, and experimenting with hair since childhood—first on herself, then on friends and family. In 2018, she dove headfirst into the craft she loves and began barber school, where she met Georgette.

Her approach to barbering is simple: deliver great service for every person, every texture, every style. Working as the only woman in traditionally male shops, she made sure her chair was a place that anyone could feel welcome and confident that they were getting her best. She takes pride in caring for clients beyond the cut, and even created some of her own products to meet the specific needs of some of her clients.

Alongside traditional short shear cuts, fades, and beard care, Bam has a long-standing passion for caring for locs, offering a variety of loc services as well as basic braiding. (Please note: any first-time loc or braiding service will require a consultation—if it’s a good fit to move forward, the consult fee will be applied to the service)

When she’s not in the shop, she’s substitute teaching or spending time with her son, their dog, or her sprawling extended family. She loves weight training, jiu-jitsu, gardening, and occasionally attempting to paint and draw.”
