Let’s talk about skin care.

As massage therapists, we spend more time looking at skin than most people ever will. Over the years, we’ve noticed suspicious spots on many of our regular clients and encouraged them to have them checked. More than once, those spots have turned out to be skin cancer.

While we’re not qualified to diagnose skin conditions, we are in a unique position to notice changes and encourage our clients to follow up with their healthcare provider. Sometimes that conversation can make all the difference.

Know the warning signs of skin cancer:

• New or changing moles – Watch for irregular shapes, color changes, or moles that seem to grow quickly.

• Sores that don’t heal – Any sore or lesion that persists for more than a few weeks should be evaluated by a medical professional.

• Itchy, crusting, or bleeding spots – Changes in texture or sensation, including itching, crusting, or bleeding, should never be ignored.

Your massage therapist is paying attention to more than just tight muscles. We care about your overall health and well-being, and if we notice something concerning, we’ll always encourage you to have it checked.
