Heightened Aesthetics

This subtle chin and jawline enhancement was achieved with strategic placement of HA filler to the chin, chin shadow, and gonial angle, along with Botox to the platysma along the jawline to reduce downward muscle pull and create a sharper, more defined jawline contour.

I’ve shared this before, but now it means a little more.

2018 at 36 → 2024 at 44.

A lot happened between these two photos. Botox/Dysport, Sculptra, conservative filler, VI Peels, microneedling, PRF and, of course, better skincare.

But when we’re talking specifically about the pigmentation, redness, clarity and overall quality of my skin, IPL has been one of the treatments that made the biggest difference.

I did a series of IPL treatments in 2020 and again in 2021 for years of sun damage, pigmentation and redness/rosacea. I loved the relatively easy recovery and the short-term results, but what really impressed me was how much better my skin looked over time.

That experience is a huge part of why I ultimately decided to purchase IPL technology for Heightened.

I wanted to be able to offer my patients a treatment that addresses the things so many of us actually see in the mirror: sun damage, brown spots, uneven pigmentation, redness, visible vessels and overall skin quality.

My skincare has evolved too. Currently I use Obagi 15% Vitamin C, ALASTIN moisturizer, Obagi 0.05% tretinoin, ALASTIN exfoliating scrub weekly and EltaMD tinted SPF every single day.

IPL didn’t do all of this by itself. Everything I’ve done over the years has played a role.

But if you ask me what made one of the biggest differences in the color and clarity of my skin? IPL is very high on that list.

We’re currently treating a limited number of patients in preparation for the official launch of Heightened IPL Photofacial Treatments in September, and we’ll have some great before + afters to share soon.

Your Natural Beauty, Heightened.

NOTHING is as humbling as no makeup, no filter, bare skin, zoomed-up photos before an IPL treatment (as a medical provider with a medical aesthetics practice).

As a 46-year-old Gen Xer who has lived in Florida since 1998, my skin has been through it.

My parents both looked like California Raisins and believed SPF caused skin cancer, so sun protection was definitely not a thing in our house, ever.

I grew up in eastern Pennsylvania. If the sun was out, I was laying in the backyard. In the endlessly long sunless late fall, winter and spring I went to the tanning bed.

Then I moved to Florida and lived on Manasota Key, where I spent pretty much every day on the beach.

I didn’t start truly caring for my skin until I was 36.

And to be fair, the skin you’re seeing now has had help since I began my career in medical aesthetics. I’ve had multiple IPL treatments over the years (amongst other treatments), with my last one in 2024. I’ll also post a photo from 2018 so you can see my BEFORE BEFORE and just how far my skin has come.

I started another IPL Photofacial series today and documenting it from the beginning so you can see exactly how my skin changes along the way.

I promise I do more than lips.

They’re just so beautiful to photograph.

Every pair is different, and every patient has a different idea of what they want. My job isn’t to create the same lips on everyone. It’s to sculpt lips that complement the face they’re on.

For this patient I chose 1 mL of Restylane Kysse for soft, natural enhancement. The goal wasn’t bigger lips. It was improved hydration, shape, balance, and subtle volume while preserving her natural anatomy.

These photos were taken at follow-up. She is healed, but you’ll notice a little residual swelling because we massaged a few small areas just before the photos to smooth the way the filler settled. That temporary swelling will continue to resolve.

Natural-looking lips aren’t about adding volume. They’re about respecting anatomy, listening to what each patient wants, and creating results that look like they were always meant to be there.

This result was achieved with just ½ syringe of Restylane Kysse. The after photo was taken immediately after treatment, so there is some expected tissue trauma.

As the lips heal over the next couple of weeks, they’ll soften, settle, and look even more natural. The goal isn’t to create a different set of lips. It’s to enhance what she already has with a little more hydration, definition, and balance.
