The purveyors of hairpiece crafting as you know it today. If there is a hairpiece application now, we probably invented it in the early 1990's:
Human hair and synthetic clips. Clip, elastic mounted, and drawstring loose falls. Silky curls, tape curls, twists, and braids. Heat sealed synthetic dreadlocks. Fur legwarmers and goggles. Wool hairpieces and so on. Yep, that was us...
I was cyber before I even knew what cyber was. Back when it was cool to just be a dorky goth and love sci-fi movies, and try to dress like I was in one. It ended up mixing with my existing dark style and becoming something else altogether. That is when I transitioned from clothing design into hairpieces. It is great to see the style still around today, almost 20 years later. For the past five years, I have been pushing my way through the ranks of the mainstream apparel industry as a designer and trend forecaster. It was all great, and I will go back again someday when the industry starts calling. However, it is time to focus more on making than having items made for me from a sketch. The best way to get a wrapped effect on dreads is to backcomb a fishtail braid, then twist when you steam and it appears wrapped. Or, at least that is the way we have been doing it for about 12 years.
