The story of Helen Gordon Davis reads like a movie script. She rose from humble beginnings to change the course of history for many women across Florida. She was a visionary...a feisty, determined and courageous trailblazer with a kind heart and the tenacity needed to make real change.

As the first woman elected to the Florida House of Representatives in Hillsborough County, she saw a need to help "displaced homemakers" and created the Women's Survival Centre in 1977.

A lot has changed since then, but one thing remains constant: Many women still experience barriers to success and need help to achieve their goals.

We carry on Helen's legacy every day at the nonprofit she founded, now known as The Helen Gordon Davis Centre for Women. Our programs empower, educate and elevate women and girls.
